    Red Sox 14, Cleveland 2:
And now for something completely unexpected…

Holy Buckets! That was one hell of a game!

Too bad I didn’t get to see one second of it…

As is usually the case, when the really good games happen, I’m at work, that game is blocked for some reason, I’m on a cruise ship to Bermuda (honestly, when That Clay Person threw his no-hitter, I was on my honeymoon–on a cruise ship to Bermuda). Always something… Once in a while I’ll see a really cool game–and if I am really lucky, something happens when I am actually AT a game–like Mike Lowell hitting a Grand Slam…Good Times!

So, Jon Lester had a 7 run lead before he took the mound–talk about taking the pressure off. But he didn’t need it, as he threw 6 scoreless innings of 3 hit ball while striking out 7 and walking 1 for his 7th win of 2011, which is the most my any pitcher in baseball this year–Not that its unexpected–it just sort of crept up…

And I guess we don’t have to worry about Dustin Pedroia–in his 1st at bat yesterday, he started 7-run 1st inning with a 2-run shot, scoring Jacoby Ellsbury who had gotten a single, and then stole 2nd…It was the 1st time in nearly 6 weeks Pedroia went yard. He weighs in: “I’m not a home run hitter. I’ll hit home runs, but by accident. If I take good a swing and drive it, it will go out. I’m not trying to hit home runs. Adrian and Youk and those guys will do that.”

I think it’s also safe to say that Carl Crawford is on the path: 4 for 4 with everything but a triple for the cycle–and increased his batting average 17 points from .212 to .229…and he only played for 6 innings! I think he is going to be fine….

evin Youkilis and JD Drew were out of the lineup, Youk with a sore hand, and Drew with his nagging hamstring issues–Youk is day to day and is expected to play today, JD Drew will probably be out for a couple days, as evidenced by the fact that the Sox called Josh Reddick up from Pawtucket…

Finally, fellow BBA Member Erin from Tigers Amateur Analysis did a preview of the Sox with some of the members of the Boston Chapter, Jeffrey Brown of Sox #1 Fan, Ernie Paicopolos of Fenway Nation World, and yours truly from Boston Red Thoughts. You can check that out here

Coming up: The Sox finish up this 7-game road trip with 4 in Detroit, whom they swept in the 2 game mini series at Fenway last week. And strangely, another day game. Alfredo Aceves gets another start, opposed by Max Scherzer. Hopefully it will be an uneventful start for Aceves, with no balks, or hitting anyone…1st pitch 1:05pm….

Addendum: Its currently the 5th inning, and it appears the Sox picked up right where they left off yesterday, with a 5-run 1st inning, and currently lead the Tigers 7-1…
