So, apparently after walking SEVEN in the other night’s brilliant come from behind win against Baltimore, Daisuke has sprained his elbow and is going on the DL, joining John “But I have a new wind-up and will be much better–really!” Lackey as the next horribly crappy pitcher to fall…
Can’t say I am all broken up about this–they have both been pretty sucky as of late–plus, it gives Tim Wakefield a chance to start, and the Sox will go with Balk King Alfredo Aceves starting this Saturday night, which kind of surprises me, as I expect the Cubs series will be a big deal…
Tito weighs in on losing 2 starters, in as many days: “It doesn’t change anything in our view. We’re going to get Lack healthy and get him back out there as quick as we can. We’re going to do the same thing with Daisuke. Until we do, we’re going to try to win with somebody else. That’s the way we always feel.”
To replace Daisuke on the roster, Michael Bowden has been called from Pawtucket, and will pitch out of the bullpen–but I expect when Dan Wheeler is ready to come off the DL on Friday, Michael won’t long for the bigs…But then again. Bowden had very effective converted to a reliever (In 14 appearances equaling 22 2/3 innings this year at Pawtucket he has a 1.59 while walking 4 and striking out 28..) and Dan Wheeler has been a train wreck, compiling a 11.32 ERA in 10 appearances with the Sox….YUK….
While I hope the rainout last night doesn’t impact the momentum (and current 4 game winning streak) the Sox have–since their next day off is 2 weeks tomorrow–any day off is not necessarily a bad thing….
Finally, if you plan being around Fenway for the Cubbies historic first return to Fenway since 1918 this weekend, head over to Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill who will host a “dueling of the dogs” offering both Fenway Franks, as well as the legendary Chicago-style dog. Both dogs, as well as other Boston Chicago menu items will be available starting today through Sunday, May 22nd….For more information please visit their website or call 617-236-REMY (7369).
And, in case you were wondering: The Fenway Frank is a traditional kosher, all-beef dog, with sweet relish, spicy mustard, on a New England style roll. Chicago-style consists of a Vienna natural casing dog, featuring relish, onion, tomato, pickle, sport peppers, and celery salt, on a steamed poppy seed bun. No contest: Fenway Frank for me!
Coming up: That Clay Person takes the mound this evening to kick off a short 2-game series against the Tigers. It’s also the 1st time the Victor Martinez is returning to Fenway since he signed with Detroit–I doubt if anyone will boo him–it’s not like he went to the Skanks or anything…. But let’s hope Clay continues he recent success and dominate them as well as he did with the Skanks over the weekend. He is opposed by former Skankee Phil Coke. 1st pitch 7:10pm….
And, dare I say it–if the Sox win, and the Skanks lose, they will switch places in the standings, with Sox claiming 2nd…Here’s to hoping….
