    Red Sox 1, Oreos 4:
Still More Black than Red Dots….

Yes, That Clay Person kept the Sox in the game, going 6 2/3 innings and only giving up the 4 runs. And yes, he didn’t give up any homers this time around, struck out 5 and only walked 2–but the career-high 12 hits are troubling, and on a night when the Sox once again could not get it going against a pitcher they had never seen before, only managing to score 1 run in the contest–4 was too many…It just seems like he can’t get everything to gel right now…

The loss drops Clay to 3-1 with a 5.33 ERA, and breaks up the 5 game winning streak the Sox had going–and places them 2 games under .500–22 games into the season. He weighs in: “I feel like I’ve done good things in each of the starts that I’ve had. Pitching with runners on base every inning is not the typical thing you want to do. I’d get two outs in an inning, make a good pitch, the guy would hit it, runner on base, extend the inning. It’s a lot of stress when you’re out there throwing with a runner on first, second or third base every inning.”

Sabermetrics, Scouting and the Science of Baseball, a weekend seminar to benefit the Jimmy Fund, will be held on May 21-22 at Harvard’s Pfizer Lecture Hall Panelists include Red Sox front office folks Jared Porter, assistant director of professional scouting and Tom Tippett, director of baseball information. Tickets are $120, or $75 if you are a full-time student. For more information, go to their website

So this year Kevin Youkilis will appear for the first time as a 3rd baseman on the All Star Ballot–unfortunately, this will not improve his chances at making it in as a starter. Unfortunately, for some inexplicable reason, there are people–and A LOT of them, who feel actually think A-Fraud is the best choice for the All-Star 3rd base slot.

I find this very strange, since most of the Skankee fans I know and speak to freaking HATE A-Rod–so who is voting for him? Maybe he hires a firm that has 200 interns, who each vote with 500 e-mail addresses (over 6-8 weeks, that is not that many)–that is 2.5 million right there–factor in the folks who actually believe he should be there (and unfortunately, there really are those who do…) and you have your voters…Let’s hope Youk can get there some other way…

Joining Youk on the Ballot are Red Sox perennials Dustin Pedroia, JD Drew and Jacoby Ellsbury. New this year are Adrian Gonzales, Carl Crawford and Jarrod Saltalamacchia

As always, you can vote 25 times per e-mail address online or on your phone, until 11:59pm EST on Thursday, June 30th. You can also vote by paper ballot at any MLB park from May 2nd until June 18th…Starting rosters will be unveiled on a special show on TBS on July 3rd. This year’s All-Star Game will be hosted by the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase field in Phoenix on July 12th…

Finally, as if I didn’t think Carl Everett was a complete disaster before, now he makes me sick. He was arrested Monday night and charged Tuesday with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with a witness–all of this after holding a gun to his wife’s head. Charming. Should lock him up and throw away the freaking key…

Coming up: Game 2 against the Oreos, with Josh Beckett and his sparkling 1.93 ERA take the mound, hoping to continue his success. I am afraid to even say it, but I am starting to get that feeling again–the one where when Josh is on the mound, I expect to win….Also look for Jason Varitek to make his 2nd start in a row in tonight’s contest Josh is opposed by Jeremy Guthrie. 1st pitch 7:05pm…
