    Red Sox 7, Twins 6:
    The Adam Wainwright Curse?

Posted by Christine E. at 5:51 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

Holy….Buckets…. Just yesterday I was talking about how sucky it was that Adam Wainwright, the Ace of the Cardinals, had to have season and a half ending Tommy John Surgery this week, mere weeks into Spring Training….

And then Josh Beckett, who was just hanging in left field during batting practice yesterday, gets hit IN THE HEAD with a ball! After examination, he was diagnosed with “mild concussion symptoms” and sent home to rest. Tito weighs in: “He’s got a headache. He’s been evaluated already. We’ll get somebody to look at him tonight, and then, when he comes in (Tuesday), we’ll check on him again to see what level, if any, of a workout he could do — or should do.” Beckett was slated to start on Thursday against the Phillies, but there is no word on whether or not that will still happen…

Crap….JUST as we were all saying that he was healthy, this stuff happens…. And who hit him? Ino Guerrero, the batting practice guru. Hell, if Adrian Beltre was still with the team, I would have thought it would have been him, as he had a habit of messing players up last year…

Daisuke fared pretty well in his 2011 campaign debut yesterday, giving up 1 run on 1 hit (a homer), and a walk in his 2 innings of work. He also struck out a batter. And even in Spring training, he throws more pitches than anyone else, throwing 25 pitches, 14 for strikes…

And of course, Tim Wakefield is the victim circumstance again-as the result of an error during his innings, leading to 3 unearned runs scoring against him.

And how bout Big Papi getting off to a great start, with a magnificent 3-run shot in the 3rd. Josh Reddick also contributed a 2-run shot in the 7th….

After yesterday’s win, the competition for the prestigious Mayor Cup evens out at 1 and 1–the teams play 5 contests during Spring Training, with whomever winning 3 getting the coveted prize…

Finally, the founder of the Baseball Bloggers Alliance (BBA), Daniel Shoptaw, has done a feature on his blog, C70 at the Bat for the last 2 seasons called “Playing Pepper”. Today features feedback on the upcoming season from some of the Boston Red Sox Blogs, Boston Red Thoughts included. Check it out!

Coming up: Holy Buckets! FINALLY a start from Jon Lester, who gets in the nod in today’s contest against, you guessed it, the Twins. Jonathan Papelbon and Alfredo Aceves will also pitch in the contest. 1st pitch 1:05pm at Hammond Stadium…

There’s no doubt, it sucks to lose an ace. Hopefully Beckett will be OK!
