    Friday Randomness…

Posted by Christine E. at 7:08 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (4)

In a startling turn of events, those weather people are calling for more snow/sleet/ucky stuff coming this weekend–AND on Truck Day! This is not even remotely amusing anymore…

Speaking of Truck Day, if you are looking for something to do, and if you are planning on being at Fenway anyway (wish I was…) stop on over Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar and Grill (), where, starting at High Noon on Tuesday, February 8th the RemDawg and Bob Lobel will be hosting a special live broadcast in honor of the occasion. Staying for lunch? Then the wings are on Jerry, with an order free with any lunch purchase.

For more info, check out his website or call 617-236-REMY (7369).

As I mentioned yesterday, Andy Pettitte is retiring from baseball. Really. There was even a press conference at Skankee Stadium this morning to prove it…

And while he was never my favorite player, the fact that he came clean on the whole HGH thing, AND threw Roger Clemens under the bus but actually TELLING the truth, raises him in my standards.

And you cannot discount the career numbers he put up as one of the best lefties in the game: 240-138 and a 3.88 ERA, with 203 of his wins coming as a member of the Skanks, and there is also the .665 postseason record (19-10) with a 3.83 ERA…Is this good enough for the Hall? Absolutely. Will the drug thing negate that? Hard to tell–but probably not…

And, in case you were wondering, the Top 3 most successful members of the Red Sox against Pettitte, based on players who had at least 32 at bats against him:

Jason Bay: .438, with 1 homer and 3 RBI’s in 32 at bats

Mike Lowell: .395, with zero homers and 8 RBI’s in 38 at bats

Manny Ramirez: .391, with 5 homers and 23 RBI’s in 92 at bats

Speaking of Jason Bay–Wow, I almost forgot about him–and I am probably not the only one, with his forgettable, injury plagued season in 2010 with the Mets. Speaking of which, with all the problems facing the ballclub, both on the field and off, I wonder if he is regretting his decision to sign with them…

So Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios is looking for people to work there–how cool would that be? Unfortunately, I have none of the skills needed to actually work at a video/web/gaming/digital media company. But it would still be cool…

Speaking of cool–something that would NOT be: Pedro signing with the Skanks. Holy Buckets, this crap could ACTUALLY happen. If they are skidding in the 2nd 1/2, they may very well offer Pedro a bunch of cash to pitch a 1/2 year for them. And since Pedro is all about “respect”, (read: Cold Hard Cash) he would more than likely take them up on it. I do NOT even want to go there right now, because I would be much more conflicted with regard to the “to boo or not to boo” issue than with others in the past…
