    December 16, 2010:
WHAT a GREAT couple of weeks!

Posted by Christine E. at 6:44 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox,Signings and Trades No Comments

First, the Sox sign two of the best players in the game, adding more speed and the big bat they very much needed–not to mention excellent defense in both positions…

And, today, the Sox are apparently working on bringing White Sox closer Bobby Jenks into the fold. While a deal has not be finalized, it is reported that an agreement for 2 years, $12 million is in the works…Wonder what Jonathan Papelbon will have to say about that?

THEN, Cliff Lee, whom Skanks have been throwing money and years throughout this off-season in a desperate attempt to acquire the ace, even getting in a bidding war with his incumbent team, the Rangers LOSES him to a team that was never in the original bidding to begin with–THE PHILLIES. He even took $ 30 million LESS, signing with the Phillies for $120 million and 5 years… And Lee’s comments are pretty telling: “It’s plenty of money. When you hit a certain point, enough’s enough. It’s just a matter of where you’re comfortable, where you’re happy, where your family’s the most comfortable, what team gives you the best chance to win.’’ Where your family is most comfortable huh? Perhaps the Skankee fans will think twice about spitting on/cursing at the wife of a pitcher their team hopes to acquire in the future…

And the icing on the cake? After 2011, CC Sabathia can OPT OUT of his 7 year, $154 million contract with the Skanks and try and go after a bigger one somewhere else. Now, he may not, but if he had another very good season like he did in 2010 (21-7, 3.18 ERA) why wouldn’t he?

Honestly, this is the Best. Offseason. Ever. HAHAHAHAHAHA….

Guess whose baaaaaack: The Sox have signed old friend Lenny Dinardo to a minor league deal. He pitched for the Ray organization last year, but was limited to 12 appearances due to elbow surgery…During his previous tenure with the Sox in 2004-06, he was 1-3 with a 5.53 ERA…

Yes, Jason Werth just signed a whopping 7 year $126 million contract with the Washington Nationals–and that is great money. But how is this different that when the Rangers paid A-Fraud far too much money all those years ago, and they still were in last place? I guess it IS about the money…

Speaking of money, is it any surprise that the Skanks paid out the highest average salary in all of major league baseball? Yep, their players were paid an average of $7,604,000 and change–more than double the MLB average of $3 million, 14,572. The Sox were 3rd with $4.8 million and change….

Coming up: Does Theo have anymore tricks up his sleeve? And what is Cashman going to do now that he did not get his man.–And I am sorry, getting catcher Russell Martin, who was plagued with hip issues all last season, is not going to do it. Be interesting to see how this plays out…
