Red Sox 3, Skanks 4, in 10 Innings:
    Certainly Better than I expected…

Posted by Christine E. at 7:21 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

For the most part, this was a GREAT weekend series. A sweep would have been the icing on the cake–but the fact that the Sox took 2 of 3, and kicked the Skanks out of 1st place, that is certainly a beautiful thing

Because both Jeter and Mariano Rivera have went on the record as saying that winning the Division is the only acceptable way to get into the postseason–which is probably one of the most stupid things I have ever heard of–and trust me, I have heard some PRETTY STUPID things in my life. So how bout this, BOYS: If you don’t win the division, why don’t you forfeit your place? Dummyheads…

So Daisuke pitched about as well as I have seen him, because frankly, when I heard about this matchup (I like how Girardi rearranged his rotation to get Phil Hughes in there–panicking a little??) I thought it was going to be ugly, But, Holy Buckets! He pitches 8 innings of 2 run ball and only threw 110 pitches! (69 for strikes) And only ONE WALK! Wow!

The rest of his line: 4 hits (including the 2-run homer by A-Fraud) while striking out 7…

And, despite the fact that it did not impact the scoring–could have done without Victor Martinez’s 7th error of the season…

Is Jonathan Papelbon capable anymore of fooling anyone that can hit? Truly? Every time he comes up anymore I say to myself “Self, there is a very good chance the Sox will now lose this game” And more often than not these days, it seems, that is the case… and with the 3 hits and the 1 walk in last nights game in his 1 inning of work–he totally boogered up Daisuke’s reallyREALLY nice start–And to totally demoralize the Skanks…

Yeah, I know Rivera screwed the pooch BIG-TIME last night–and watching the 4 steals by 2 players, and Mo blowing HIS 5th save of the year was GREAT times–but when your own closer blows HIS 8th of the year, not so much…

And I dont even want to talk about Okajima WALKING the winning run in–It’s bad enough when they beat the Sox–but when the Sox GIVE them the run…..UGH…

Thankfully, Mike Lowell is none the worse for the wear after getting smacked in the face with the ball on Friday night–my heart went into my throat when he got hit and dropped like a stone…Was a classy gesture by Curtis Granderson (Who hit the ball) to come right over and make sure he was OK–heard he was a very upstanding guy. Fortunately, it just hit him in the jaw, and there was no concussion whatsoever–and while he did not start on Saturday or Sunday–he contributed to the scoring on Sunday with a 9th inning sac fly, and then stayed in the game at 1st base for the 10th inning…

Coming up: That Clay Person goes for him 17th win of the season in what will probably be his penultimate start of 2010, as he kicks off the final 4 away games of the season. He is opposed by Mark Buehrle for the Pale Hose. 1st pitch 8:10pm…

    7 more games…and 3 more against the Skanks….Yuk…

Seriously! No hitter is afraid of Jonathon Papelbon anymore. Hitters used to fear him and now it seems like they know exactly what he is going to throw. Maybe is tipping his pitches somehow? And Okajima… I should’ve just went to bed the moment I saw they were bringing him in…the game was already over at that point.
