    Red Sox 2, Oreos 4:
    Another Day, Another Black Dot…

Posted by Christine E. at 5:04 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (3)

    I don’t even know why I am surprised/dismayed/disappointed/p*ssed off anymore…

    • Too many walks–Check
    • Too much nibbling–Check
    • The inability to get out of the 7th inning–Check
    • Full of apologies–Check
    • Has no clue why he is unsuccessful–Check

His line: 6.1 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits while walking 5 and striking out 4, he threw 109 pitches, 71 for strikes….Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuk………….And that is “Yuk”, not “Youk…

And then there is everything else:

    • The ubiquitous errors–a throw by Victor Martinez (which, fortunately did not impact the scoring)–Check
    • The inherited runners scoring–this time 2, by a oh-so-rusty Daniel Bard–Check
    • Lack of timely hitting–As much as I love Mike Lowell, he is injured, and he was the DH last night…and went 0-3 with a run–and that was 50% of the scoring…Check

And while I am at it–Let’s look at the fact that over 16 games against Baltimore this year, the Sox are dead even at 8-8…ya think thing might have been different if the Sox were able to take care of the team who will lose more than the Sox will win this year? Ya think?

So the Sox stand 6.5 games back from Tampa Bay in the Wild Card–with 12 games left, the Sox have a Magic Number of 7…Honestly, I almost wish the season was over already–I am SO ready to turn the page and get ready for 2011. Yeah, I know, October 4th I’ll be complaining that we have 6 months of nothing until there is meaningful baseball again….but this is freaking depressing to watch…

Never thought I would say this, but the time off seems to have done Okajima good–in his last 9 1/3 innings since coming off the DL, he has not allowed a run. During those 11 appearances he has only given up 6 hits and 2 walks, but has struck out 4…This could go a long way in getting him a 2nd chance in Boston in 2011–the way it was going before the DL stint (5.85 ERA), it looked like a non-tender was in his future…

Hardware alert: How is this for ironic? Before last night’s game, the Baseball Writer’s voted Daniel Bard Fireman of the Year–and then he goes out and gives up the sac fly and single in the 7th inning to allow the 2 inherited runners to score, and essentially lose the game…

But there WAS some good defense last night, with Bill Hall having 2 outfield assists in last night’s contest–one was to 3rd base, and one was to home. He is the 3rd Red Sox outfielder to have multiple assists in a game this year, joining Darnell McDonald and Mike Cameron…C’mon, did you ever thing, in a BILLION years, that Bill Hall would be all that and a bag of chips for 2010 (yeah, go back and read that again…)

Coming up: That Clay Person goes for his 17th win, starting game 2 of this final series against the Oreos for 2010. He is opposed by Brad Bergesen, who hasn’t been super effective against the Sox this year (1-3 with a 3.66 ERA)–but that was before Buck Showalter…1st pitch 7:05pm…
