    Red Sox 5, Oakland 3:
    Scraping by…

Yeah, Josh Beckett got his 5th win, and yeah, a win is a win, but Holy Buckets, do they all have to be so freaking PAINFUL???

5 walks, a hit batter, and 110 pitches (61 for strikes) in 6 innings? UGH. After the 3rd inning when he couldn’t seem to find the plate walking FOUR IN A ROW, he is freaking LUCKY that Oakland didn’t annihilate him….REALLY lucky…and this luck is the reason I am not buying the general consensus that this was a “quality start”–it was a start good enough for a win, but “quality”? Uh, No…..”Passable” would better describe it…And he still has an ERA higher (5.83) than Tim Wakefield (5.25)

The rest of his line: 5 hits while striking out 7–the lack of homers on this one was a nice change though…

Scott Atchison has been no so yukky as of late, contributing another 2 scoreless, hitless innings of work, striking out 1, and Jonathan Papelbon had one of his moments of brilliance, striking out the side for a perfect 9th…

Its official: Mike Lowell will be retiring after this season, citing his desire to stay home and be with his kids. I wish things had been better for him, especially that it’s his last season. He weighs in: “It’s been 12 outstanding years and I don’t regret anything in my career. I’m super happy to spend time with my family, but I’m super happy to say I played baseball as my job. I wanted to do it since I was 6 years old. To have that chance has really been unbelievable.”

I’m glad he is not going somewhere else, because I can still wear his jersey for a while–and I am completely flummoxed as to whose jersey I want to wear after this…Jonathan Lester is a possibility–maybe Ryan Kalish if he sticks.–but there is really no one else who moves me enough to buy his jersey–Don’t get me wrong, I like Youk and Pedroia, but everyone has their jerseys…maybe it will be clearer next season…

Coming up: The Sox head to Seattle for the final 3 left coast games for 2010, 2 of them being in the middle of the night. Washington native Jon Lester gets the start to kick off the series, opposed by righty Doug Fister. 1st pitch 10:10pm…

19 more games in the Boston Red Sox 2010 Campaign–enjoy ‘em while they last-even if they are in the middle of the night…
