    Red Sox 2 Angels 7:
    Click Click Boom…

Posted by Christine E. at 4:49 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Yes, that is a song I heard over the weekend, played by my friend’s band but that is also the sound of the 2010 Boston Red Sox exploding into nothingness…

    Click. Click. Boom.

Yeah, Josh Beckett went 5 shutout innings–before giving up 4 runs in the 6th, including a 3 run shot to freaking Matsui…OK, 4 runs is still keeping the Sox in the game. But then in the 7th inning Josh Beckett gets the credit for 2 more–all thanks to the Sox abysmally crappy bullpen–tonight’s feature was Manny “apparently I forgot where the strike zone is” Delcarmen with his 3 walks–and 2 out of 2 inherited runners score–and, leaves the bases loaded for Scott Atchison, who managed to only let ONE of the inherited runners score…

So heading into the 8th inning the score is 7-1, pretty much insurmountable hurdle for the Sox offense to climb since the Angels pitching staff pretty much shut the Sox down…

I will say this: Tim Wakefield has ANOTHER 2 scoreless innings, only giving up 1 hit, walking none and striking out 1–and at this point, Beckett (6.67 ERA) is REALLY the better option than Wake???(5.38 ERA)

The rest of Beckett’s line: 105 pitches, 67 for strikes, 7 hits while walking 2 and striking out 6…

So, the Sox are 9-1 against the Angels for 2010–10-0 would have been so much nicer-and are now 6.5 games back in the AL East, and 5.5 in the Wild Card–with 40 to play…

Did everyone think Dustin Pedroia would come back and play the rest of the games of the season, without a break? Me either. But I never in a million years expected him BACK ON THE DL TODAY. Pedey weighs in: “I wouldn’t be too productive if I was out there right now. Today, it’s hurting when I walk and that’s not a good sign. So I guess the best thing to do, like I said, is don’t do anything and let it heal…I feel like I let everybody down. I can’t really do much. I tried, so hopefully it heals up and I’ll get back in there.”

And truly, it has become, “another day, another player to the DL” this time its Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s turn. He was placed in the DL yesterday with an infection in his right lower leg–and infection so bad it requires 2-3 DAYS of IV antibiotics–but its not MRSA…The Sox called Dusty Brown up from Pawtucket as the back up–unfortunately, he is another sucking gaping black hole, offensively…Kevin Cash should be off the DL soon (CHECK)–and once the medical team decides what is going on with Jason Varitek, I expect we will see him as well..

But it looks like Okajima will be heading to a minor league rehab start this weekend, which means HE will be back soon! UGH…

Coming up: The real Ace of the staff, Jon Lester, kicks off the 3-game weekend series against Toronto, who the Sox have fortunately been pretty successful against this year… He is opposed by Brett Cecil. 1st pitch: 7:10pm…
