    Red Sox 5, Toronto 6:

Posted by Christine E. at 2:49 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (3)

Ya know–I though we were past all of this blown save nonsense–apparently not. And its not even a blown save you can understand–like the bases loaded and the winning run is given up on an error, or a strange bunt or something like that…OK, truth be told, there ARE no blown saves I can understand–but if there was one–this would be the kind…

But this was not once of these. Jon Lackey–who probably pitches one of his best games in a Red Sox uniform, actually got to 1 batter in the NINTH inning, and STILL could not get a win. He leaves the game after giving up a solo shot to Jose Bautista to kick off the 9th, and leaves with the score 5-3. Hell, I could have saved this game. So Papelbon comes in and it’s double, single, single (off his foot), strikeout, double, and intentional walk. So now the bases are loaded with 1 out–and Tito does the miraculous and unbelievable: he PULLS Papelbon, and brings in Daniel Bard–who promptly gives up a sac fly which scores the guy at 3rd, leading to the stunning 6-5 loss…

The rest of Lackey’s line: 3 runs on 8 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4–and he threw 98 pitches, 66 for strikes…Brilliant outing–and NOTHING to show for it…Oh, and by the by, THREE of Papelbon’s blow saves this year? Yep, were games in which John Lackey pitched….So maybe he’s be a much more palatable 13-7 if the pooch hadn’t been screwed…

So, instead of being 3 games behind Tampa Bay in the Wild Card, the Sox are 4 games behind–and 6 games behind the Skanks in the AL East…

And it makes me crazy (just add it to the list….) to think that if the Sox had even won HALF of Jonathan Papelbon’s blown saves–would the Sox be in a better position than they are now? And what makes me CRAZIER (if that is even possible) is that he KNEW he wasn’t right, terming it “Kind of a groggy day for me”–and yet he said nothing to anyone, because he is the “closer that sets the standard” ya know…ARGH!

Jarrod Saltalamacchia made his 1st start behind the dish yesterday, and immediately made an impact, going 2-4 with 2 doubles, AND threw out a base stealer–guess the Yips are all gone…. And his performance is MUCH better than the sucking hole of offense that is Kevin Cash….

Today is the day that Dustin Pedroia finds out if he is ready: He meets with his foot doctor and will find out if he is healed enough to proceed–if yes, he will play this weekend with Pawtucket, and then will hopefully be activated on Tuesday, the 17th–his 27 birthday…

Coming up: The final 3 games of this road trip, the Sox head to Texas to play three in the ungodly Texan heat (supposed to be 100+ degrees each day–I feel sluggish just thinking about it…) with Josh Beckett returning to his home state to kick off the series, opposed by Tommy Hunter for the AL West leading “Dark Bright Blue Team” 1st pitch: 8:05pm…Hopefully it will be cooler then…

Hi, I really like exploring the web !. Remarkable isn’t it that 15 years ago it barely existed. Today even Bill Clintons cat has a blog !. Apologies in case you think I am being cheeky posting this here BUT I am 15 years old and need to do a project at school (for my GCSE exams). It would really, really help if folks posted on here how many hours a week they believe they spend on the Web. I think I am up to 30 hours !. Really appreciate anybody taking the time to reply. Thanks. Bookmarked, I will return every week.
