    Red Sox 2, Skanks 1:
    Rising to the Occasion…

On a day where Jon Lester needed to be just about perfect, he was…

Bouncing back from an awful start to the 2nd 1/2 (0-4 with a 5.06 ERA), Jon Lester downright brilliant, pitching 6 1/3 innings of 4 hit-ball–he even took a no hitter to the 5th inning… Throwing 99 pitches, 57 for strikes, he struck out 6, hit a batter, and walked 3…

Daniel Bard made things a little interesting in the 8th, giving up a solo shot to Mark Toxemia, that was the only damage allowed by Red Sox pitching. Jonathan Papelbon gave up 1 walk and struck out 3–including Mark Toxemia to end the game–in his 1 1/3 of perfect work….

The Sox were actually able to get to Phil Hughes for 2 runs in the 2nd inning, and Jacoby Ellsbury finally broke out of his 0-16 funk, going 1-2 with a walk, and with FOUR stolen bases, tying Jerry Remy who stole 4 in 1980…Maybe Tito’s move of moving him to 9th, rather than leadoff really did work….

So now the Sox are the same as they were when they came to the Bronx–6 games behind the Skanks in the AL East–BUT, as Tampa Bay didn’t fare so well over the weekend, the Sox managed to gain a game to be 4.5 games behind in the Wild Card…

And the Sox have almost 6 weeks before they see the Skanks again, at the Stadium, AGAIN…UGH…

Hardware Alert: Personal favorite Josh Reddick was named International League Play of the Week for his work with Pawtucket, hitting .464, including 3 homers in 6 games. Also receiving accolades was AA Portland 1st baseman Anthony Rizzo, who was Eastern League Player of the week, hitting .444 with 3 homers during the span…

It’s as he never left: Jed Lowrie had been gone so long I think we all forgot that he is a pretty good hitter. Since his return on July 21, he has played 14 games and is batting .286 with 3 RBI’s…

Neato stat: Since becoming the everyday 1st baseman, Mike Lowell is hitting .278 with 4 RBI’s…

Carlos Delgado made his Red Sox debut as DH for Pawtucket last night–the 1st time he has hit in over a year; he went 0-3 with a strikeout…

Coming up: The Sox head to Toronto, (who has been ON FIRE) to kick off 3 games on the other side of the boarder. Let’s hope the Sox continue their domination of the Blue Jays. Daisuke, coming off his best outing in a very long time, gets the start, opposed by Ricky Romero, who actually threw a 2-hitter against the Skanks last week. 1st pitch: 7:07pm…
