    Red Sox 7, Angels 3:
    A Desperately needed Sweep…

Posted by Christine E. at 4:40 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

    Wow…what a difference 3 games makes–at least in spirit…

Unfortunately, the Sox didn’t gain any ground in the standings–they are still 7 games back in the AL East, and 5 games back in the Wild Card…

There are 60 games left to play. Can the Sox, as constructed, make up the deficit?

Unless Theo does SOMETHING good with the bullpen, I fear the answer is a definite NO…

If some, if not all of the bullpen issues are resolved, and the DL’ed players start coming back and can ramp up quickly–I am still left with a definite maybe…

But I am very glad that Josh Becket seems to be on the right path–for his 1st win since coming off the DL last week, he went 7 strong, throwing 12 pitches, 69 for strikes, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1. Yeah, his ERA is still over 6–but now he has twice as many wins as he did before the contest…

And the Demonic Bullpen Tandem–weren’t, going the last 2 innings giving up only 1 walk, 1 hit, zero runs, and 4 strikeouts in the span…

And all of the runs scored were as a result of homers: Kevin Youkilis, Adrian Beltre and Bill Hall all stroked solo shots–and then there is Marco Scutaro, with his Grand Slam in the top of the 8th, which put the Sox ahead for good, and allowed them to return home with a winning (albeit barely) record of 6-4 for the road trip…

And Jacoby Ellsbury is moving along, playing with the Gulf Coast League–look for him to upgrade to Pawtucket probably this weekend…Could it be that he may actually be playing in the bigs in the next 2 weeks or so???

So Mike Lowell hit 3 homers in 1 game on Wednesday night Pawtucket–and he had a couple other homers and a perfect night another night–which is super great–but what happens when he is done with his rehab? He gets to rot on the bench with the Sox?

Less than 2 days to the trade deadline (Saturday at 4:00pm EST) Will Mike Lowell be traded? Will the Sox pick up some badly needed bullpen help? Will Theo do anything? I have to believe he will–what that is exactly, I wonder…

And OK, fine, I admit it–I actually LIKED having games start later in the evening. Maybe 10pm is a bit late–but it actually allowed me to get stuff done and then by the time I was ready to start winding down, there was baseball…

Finally, our friends at eTrueSports are reporting this breaking news: American Pie Association Wants MLB To Ban Shaving Cream–Real Whipped Cream “A Time-Honored Baseball Tradition”. Heath concerns may help the traditionalists’ argument. “My cosmetologist says shaving cream is drying out my face big time,” said an MLB player who asked not to be identified by name, “I’m thinking about not hitting any more walk-off homers.” You can read all about it here

Coming up: A much needed day off for the Sox, as they travel home to the Fens for 7 before going back out on the road. Kicking off 3 games against the Tigers tomorrow night, Jon Lester hopes to right his own ship, after losing the last 2 contests. He is opposed by Armando Galarraga for Detroit. 1st pitch 7:10pm…

The house I always live in had something along these lines in the basement.
It was great. I miss it within my brand new home.
