Red Sox 8, Tampa Bay 5:

Posted by Christine E. at 6:28 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Yep–One Game Separates the Sox from the Skanks in the AL East…and I find the fact that the Sox actually made it through a game without an injury to be a very positive sign…

But the fact that Jon Lackey handed over a non- laboring 7 run lead at the top of the 8th inning, and it took FIVE relievers to get 6 outs, while giving up 4 runs in the process–not so positive…

Lackey’s line: Throwing 108 pitches, 69 for strikes, giving up 1 run on 8 hits while walking 2 and striking out 3 for his 9th win of the season….

So Victor Martinez was not able to dodge the DL bullet, but at least he will not need surgery to correct the fracture in his thumb–rest should do it. So with the All-Star break (it wasn’t like he was going anyway) it’ll give him time–and will impact the team less. To help Jason Varitek shoulder the catching duties, Gustavo Molina (pretty much the only catcher in the minors who isn’t injured) got to call from Pawtucket, and will catch Tim Wakefield on Friday…

And Clay Buchholz is almost pain free now, going to start his in between work today, and will probably pitch Monday or Tuesday…

Unfortunately, the news isn’t as good for Dustin Pedroia–it looks like about 6 weeks until he can play again–and at the rate Jacoby Ellsbury is going, Pedey will probably beat him back….Guess it could be worse–He could have been out 6 months, and has to have surgery…Newly acquired Eric Patterson, will get the bulk of the playing time while he is out…

Well, The Boof Bonser Experiment is definitely over now, as he clearer waivers and instead of going to Pawtucket, opted for Free Agency–Yeah, good luck with that….His stats? 60 starts, 38 relief appearances, 18-25 with a 5.19 ERA….I am sure they will be banging down his door…

Finally, If you interested in seeing how the young’ uns are progressing, the Futures at Fenway Minor League doubleheader is coming up next weekend, Saturday, July 10th.

The first game is at 12:05 pm, with Lowell Spinners playing the Jamestown Jammers. The second game will feature the Salem Red Sox making their Futures at Fenway debut, opposed by the Potomac Nationals.

In addition to the games, other events include carnival activities such as games, face painting and the like, and after the games, kids can go out on the field and play catch, as well as get autographs from the players.

Tickets are available for seats on the Green Monster, Right Field Roof Deck, EMC Club, the Dugout Seats and the State Street Pavilion, with prices ranging from $5 to $30 and may be purchased through the Red Sox website or by calling (877) REDSOX-9. Maybe I should go, probably the only chance I’ll ever get to actually sit on the Monster during a game…

Coming up: Daisuke make his 2nd start since coming back from the DL, and closing out this 2-game mini series. Then another &(*&#@*&#(@ off-day…He is opposed by Matt Garza and his strange chin hair, Elmo. 1st pitch 7:10pm…
