    June 15, 2010:
    65 Games in…

Posted by Christine E. at 5:06 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (3)

Just some random thoughts as the Sox prepare for more interleague play…

Is this really going to happen? Are the Red Sox going to be one of those teams for the All-Stars where they HAVE to add a player, because every team has to have at least 1? Well, it doesn’t look like the fans are going to vote any of the starters in…

The latest results of the All-Star voting, with Dustin Pedroia still 2nd behind the STILL revolting, and STILL oh-so undeserving, Robinson Cano, by about 1/2.

    The rest of the tallies:

1st Base: Youk is still 4th, but at least Justin Morneau is beating Toxemia…

Catcher: Victor Martinez is still at 3rd, with Jorge Posada at 2nd and Joe Mauer at 1st…

3rd Base: Adrian Beltre is still at #4. And with all his errors, and the fact that he likes to break the ribs of left fielders, is this any surprise? But I am glad to see people are coming to their senses, with Eva (n) Longoria is leading the pack, with A-Fraud in 2nd place…

DH: David Ortiz is still at #4, even behind the retired Ken Griffey, Jr…

So if you want to vote, you have until July 1st to do so…Happy Voting!

I think the players will vote at least Youk and Pedroia in–and, chances are, as loathsome as it is, Papelbon will probably get a nod… And while That Clay Person is certainly in the running for pitching in the All-Star game–we have to keep in mind who the AL coach is this year–Joe Girardi–so you know that the team with be STOCKED with Skanks…

So Daisuke is on the DL, retroactive to June 8th, but it’s really not that bad, and he’ll probably start throwing again today? He was throwing up during his sides session, probably had food poisoning, but then he goes on the DL with forearm strain? I don’t get it–but it gives me a break from those horrendous Daisuke Daiquiris…He can come back as early as next Wednesday the 23rd…

Josh Beckett is doing well too, continuing to play catch, and increasing the distance each time. If all goes well, there will probably a bullpen session sometime this week…

Another milestone for Tim Wakefield: During the 3rd inning of Sundays’ loss, Wake joined yet another prestigious club–the 3000 inning club. He joins Jamie Moyer and Andy Pettitte as the only 3 pitchers in active play, behind Pettitte by only 2 innings, behind 274 year old Moyer–almost 1,000…

Can I just tell you the best part of the Red Sox 2010 campaign thus far? These players who come out of NOWHERE and do something amazing–Like Darnell McDonald and his game tying homer/walk off single to win the game in his 1st game with the Sox…or this weekends phenom–Daniel Nava, who turns on the 1st pitch he sees in the Bigs…EVER–and hits a GRAND SLAM–off Jamie Moyer no less….These are 2 guys no one had ever heard before–heck, Nava was playing in the independent leagues before he was signed by the Sox–and now they are pretty much household names in Red Sox Nation. Even if they never do anything again, they will be remembered…

File this under the “Completely NOT a Surprise” section: GUESS who the NL player of the week is? Well, he has pitched 2 games in the bigs, won both, and has a 2.19 ERA and 22 strikeouts–the 1st 14 coming in the first game…and he is 21 years old. Yep, Stephen Strasburg–and his next start is slated for this Friday against the White Sox–SO wish the Red Sox were playing the Nationals this year…

Coming up: That Clay Person will try and continue to make his compelling case for All-Star as he takes the mound tonight to kick off the 3 game series against Arizona. He is opposed by Ian Kennedy for the Diamondbacks. 1st pitch: 7:10pm…
