    Red Sox 3, KC 4:
Was this REALLY all that surprising???

Posted by Christine E. at 4:23 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

EIGHT WALKS….in 4 2/3 innings….8…freaking…walks…including 5 walks in 1 inning, and walking home the run that pretty much decided the game…All of this, after a 1-hitter 5 days ago…

The rest of the nasty line: 112- pitches (Ironically, the same the threw in his brilliant outing on Saturday), 60 for strikes, giving up 3 runs on 2 (yes, TWO) hits while striking out 1, throwing a wild pitch–AND hitting a batter–Talk about your Trifecta…..YUK…

And NONE of this comes as a surprise…none of it…it just makes me wonder how much more of this Sox management is going to take of this $101 million, 6 year mistake–PLEASE don’t tell me we have to deal with another 2+ years of this…please…

Josh Beckett will be throwing his side session today–and if all goes well, he should be on track to be activated sometime next week. My feeling is that if he needs the time, STAY ON THE DL…Wake will take care of it…

And there is still no resolution to the Jacoby Ellsbury phantom pain thing. From Tito: “He’s been examined. I mean, we have looked at the pictures. All the medical people are trying to look at everything. He’s really tender. Dr. Gill (Sox Medical Director) will be here tonight (Thursday). We’ll try to meet again. We got to get to the bottom of this. We’re not at the bottom of it. We don’t want to rush into putting him on the DL. At the same time, he’s not ready to play because of the way he feels. … If we have to get more opinions, we’ll do what we think is necessary…”

This whole deal feels weird to me–it’s like when you were a little kid and you didn’t want to go to somewhere, or do something, so you tell your mom your stomach hurts, and she takes your temp and its normal, and you say to her, “But Mom, it really hurts!” And unfortunately, there is precedence here–remember what happened when he got hurt in 2008–and then Jake wasn’t ready to play because he wasn’t 100%? And Tito actually had to come out and say there is no such thing as 100% in baseball, something always hurts? He is going to be examined and tested yet again today…

And since his leg didn’t fall off, JD Drew was back in the lineup, and did well, going 3-4 with a run…

Looks like Victor Martinez will be able to catch Wake tonight, which is a good thing, as I used up all of my Jack Daniels on the Daisuke Daiquiris last night…Martinez has not caught since Monday when he was hit with a foul ball, but did pinch hit in last night’s contest…

Finally, last night was Kevin Millar’s debut on NESN, in addition to the duties on the MLB Network. Here is what Tito had to say (all in jest, of course): “The media just got worse. I shouldn’t be speechless, I just don’t know what to say. I don’t know if I’m embarrassed for television. I’m not sure where to go with this…”

Coming up: Tim Wakefield (ahhh!!!!) to hopefully get the Sox back to a winning state-and pitch alot of inning, as Daisuke once again depleted the bullpen with a crappy outing. Wake is opposed by Kyle Davies for KC. 1st pitch 7:10pm…
