Red Sox 6, Tampa Bay 1
No, that is not a misprint…

Another great outing from That Clay Person. If this keeps up, I’ll need to give him a better nickname…

Throwing 108 pitches, 69 for strikes, Clay went 6 strong innings of 1 run ball on 6 hits–the only run coming from a solo shot by Carlos Pena. He also walked 1 and struck out 8, for the team leading 6th win…

And, fortunately, Victor Martinez’s toe is not broken, only bruised, as a result of a foul tip by Reid Brignac in the 3rd inning caused him to be removed from the game shortly thereafter. And for those of you who are all excited that this will allow Jason Varitek to play full time for a while, stop it: Martinez is not that injured, he’ll probably miss tonight, but that is it–and I really think that the reason for ‘Tek’s success thus far in 2010 is that he has time to rest and focus on hitting, rather than catching and the like every day…

Looks like its really going to happen this time–really: Mike Cameron will be back with the Sox for tonight’s contest, after being our for over a month with lower abdominal strain. But dont expect him back 100%–he will be getting alot of days off, and will more than likely play in left rather than center for a while…which is OK by me–Jacoby can do fine there….

So, tonight, for the 1st time since April 11th, the Sox will actually have the team they compiled in the offseason…be interesting to see what effect it has…

And to make room for Cameron, Darnell McDonald has been designated for assignment– The Sox now have 10 days to trade, release, or wait for him to pass through waivers–hopefully he will clear and be sent to Pawtucket–but I think someone will snap him right up….But we’ll see….Tito weighs in: There was nothing else to do,…I hope for his sake somebody claims him. I would be shocked if somebody doesn’t. I guess I hope for our sake they don’t. I hope his days in our uniform aren’t over. I have a feeling they will be….In 31 games, Darnell batted .263 with 3 homer, including that walk-off single in his debut…Wish they had sent Bill Hall down….

And for some reason that completely escapes me, the Sox have recalled Scott Atchinson from Pawtucket, and sent shortstop Angel Sanchez back to the PawSox…Uh WHY? He had a 6.10 ERA when he was here earlier in the season…Can’t he go away too? But Ramon S. first please….

The Forgotten Man Update: And there is STILL no timetable for Jed Lowrie to actually play in the bigs again, or even go on a rehab assignment. He still has mono–although he is getting better, and has started putting weight back on–He is not well enough to advance…

The All-Star break is 7 weeks away, and my prediction is that Stephen Strasburg, the top pick of the 2009 amateur draft, and who has been FLYING up the Washington Nationals farm system, will be pitching in the bigs before the break…He has made 4 starts in AAA for the Syracuse Chiefs, and did not allow a run for his 1st 20.1 innings. The 1st runs scored off the phenom were during last night’s contest, when the Toledo Mud Hens hit him up for 2…

So far, none of the Sox are faring super well in the All-Star voting, with the exception of Dustin Pedroia, who is 2nd behind the revolting, and oh-so undeserving, Robinson Cano. Probably not really surprising, given they played so horrible for the 1st month or so–I expect an uptick in votes for the Sox, now that they are playing the way they are expected to…

    The rest of the tallies:

1st Base: Youk is 5th. This is a shock–I thought he would be at least 2nd

Catcher: Victor Martinez is 3rd. Which is probably about where he is going to stay–and there is no way he will unseat Joe Mauer for 1st…

3rd Base: Adrian Beltre is 4th. While I think Beltre may creep up to 4th, I dont think he will unseat Longoria, or A-Fraud (WHY people still vote for him is COMPLETELY beyond me…)

DH: David Ortiz is 5th. I expect him to creep up to maybe 3rd, especially since Pat Burrell is a man with a country right now–But I don’t think he will get any higher than that…

Finally, from our friends at eTrueSports: In an effort to boost their embarrassingly poor attendance, the best club in the majors has announced that this Friday will be iPad Night, when the first 10,000 fans will receive Apple’s latest gizmo, absolutely free.

Other Ray’s promotions in the works are Samsung Flat Screen TV Night, Home Makeover Night, Tesla Roadster Day, Carnival Cruise Sunday, Amazon Kindle Weekend, and, for Father’s Day, Viagra Night. You can read all about it here

Coming up: Game 2 against the Rays–can lighting strike twice? Jon Lester takes the mound, opposed by James Shields. 1st pitch 7:05pm…
