    Red Sox 11, Angels 6:
    Their very 1st sweep….

Well, I really can’t say Daisuke pitched well enough for the win–but since the offense was great in this game, with 11 runs, 4 of them Victor Martinez’s fault, his outing was sufficient…

Notice I said “sufficient”. ‘Cause there is ALWAYS one…bad…inning…the inning that causes me to fire up the blender for the Daisuke Daiquiri: Maalox and Jack Daniels…tasty!

And this time, just to mix things up, it was the 1st inning, where he gave up 4 runs, including walking the 1st 2 batters he faced. Then he settled down for the next 4 1/3, allowing only 1 more run after that (which actually was an inherited runner allowed to score by, MDC who added one of his own to round out his inning of work…

Throwing 92 pitches, 58 for strikes, Daisuke gave up 5 runs on 5 hits while walking and striking out 3…and his ERA is now a generous 9.90…which is better than the abysmal 11.57 it was last week…

But, truly, THIS is what the Sox sent Tim Wakefield to the bullpen for? I know he has been struggling as well, but Daisuke hasn’t been good since 2008…UGH…

Just a few days after the passing of the voice of the Tigers, Ernie Harwell, 92 of cancer, baseball lost another one of their own. Robin Roberts, the most accomplished right-handed pitcher in the history of the Phillies, passed away in his Florida home due to natural causes. He was 83.

Injury update: Both Mike Cameron and Jacoby Ellsbury continued with live batting practice yesterday, and Cameron will be examined by the team doctor today. If all goes well there, look for him to start a minor league rehab stint before returning to the Sox. Ellsbury, while doing better, is still not that close to returning….

Top Prospect Alert has updated their preseason 2010 Top 10 Prospect lists by team rankings to include a progress report of how each player has done so far this season, as of May 1st. For the Sox Top 10, you can go here; All other teams can be accessed by the main page at Top Prospect Alert…

Finally, Steiner Sports Memorabilia For Fans is holding a very cool promotion: All day today, and until 3:05 pm tomorrow (just before the Sox/Yankee game starts) anyone who purchases something player specific, for either the Red Sox or the Yankees, can actually get that item FREE–if the player in question hits a homer during Saturday’s contest. Yep. Wanted to get that Kevin Youkilis Jersey you have been eyeing up for the last 5 years? If you do, and Youk hits a homer, it’s yours FOR FREE.

Here are the guidelines: Orders must be placed prior to first pitch on Saturday, May 8, 2010 (approximately 3:05 p.m. EST). All sales are final, even if a particular player doesn’t appear in the game. The standard 30-day return policy does not apply. Game used or Yankee Stadium demolition items do not apply. This promotion cannot be combined with any other offer and is only valid on new orders placed between Thursday, May 6, at 3 p.m. and Saturday, May 8, at 3:05 p.m. Should multiple players appear on a single piece, all players must hit a home run to qualify.

    Good Luck!

Coming up: Yep, the Skanks are coming to town, AGAIN, for 3, AGAIN–Let’s just hope that the great momentum from beating up on the Angles carries over into this 3 game series–and the Sox win at least 2–although a sweep would not be unwelcome…Josh Beckett gets the nod for tonight’s start, opposed by Phil Hughes–it was supposed to be Javier Lopez, but, in light of his recent struggles, and the fact that he curls up into the fetal position and weeps like a 2 year old whenever he has to face the Sox since 2004 (cannot imagine WHY…), Hughes gets the nod. But with his sparkling 1.44 ERA and 3-0 record–it’s a pretty good move. 1st pitch 7:10pm…

And, in case you were wondering:

Tomorrow: That Clay Person vs CC Sabathia, 3:10pm

Sunday, the ubiquitous ESPN game, with Jon Lester and A.J. Burnett, 8:05pm

    Go Sox!
