    Red Sox 2, Toronto 0:
    The Ace of Sox…

Posted by Christine E. at 4:22 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

    Now, THAT is an Ace…

Just 1 day after That Clay Person looked suspiciously like the Ace of the Boston Red Sox, another heir apparent emerges–or perhaps re-emerges is the better word.

Jon Lester, who went into last night’s contest an abysmal 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA, got his 1st win of the season pitching 7 innings of 1 HIT baseball, while striking out 11 batters. He threw 119 pitches, 75 for strikes, and walked 2.

And then Daniel Bard came out in the 8th, and gave up the only other hit the Blue Jays would get this night–AND struck out 3 of his own…

AND, with a miracle of his own, Jonathan Papelbon actually had a perfect and clean inning, striking out 1.

And with that, the Sox have their very 1st sweep of the 2010 campaign–and couldn’t come a moment too soon…

That is not to say that all is right with the Boston Red Sox. There is still have a problem with Josh Beckett–the party line is that he is not injured–but c’mon, would they really tell us if he was? David Ortiz AND JD Drew are both still hitting under the Mendoza line. (CHECK) Although the scrutiny is more focused on Big Papi, rather than JD…Probably because JD has never been as good as advertised, and Big Papi was always better…And then there is the obsequious errors (although there were none last night…) and the fact that the catching staff cannot throw out a runner to save their life, Etc Etc…

As expected, Alan Embree was on-hand for the festivities last night, wearing #43 as he did when we was with the Sox before, and while he was warm in the pen during the 9th inning, he did not pitch last night…

Another roster spot will need to be cleared for when Daisuke returns to the rotation on Saturday. The obvious choice would be the other Scott: Schoeneweis, who has been hot and cold in his outings. But the Sox could do something crazy and dump Okajima, who has been struggling as of late…

And what about Darnell McDonald? This kid is ON FIRE! He was 2 for 3 last night with a double, (CHECK) and in the time he has been with the Sox (9 games he has scored 5 runs and has 6 RBI’s–Six. More than Victor Martinez. More than David Ortiz…

But can please PLEASE stop it with the “D-Mac” nonsense? Why do people feel the need to do the 1st initial hyphen 1st syllable of the last name crap? It’s LAME, Contrived and overdone–so STOP IT…

Coming up: The 1st Off-Day in over 2 weeks, and then the Sox head to Baltimore for the final 3 games of this road trip. John Lackey gets the nod for the opener, opposed by David Hernandez for the Cookies. 1st pitch: 7:05pm…
