February 15, 2010:
Three…is a Magic Number…
As more and more players arrive at camp (and The Truck should have been unloaded sometime this morning) the feeling of excitement is really starting to brew–despite the fact that Mother Nature dumped about a foot of snow here in NE Pennsylvania in the last week, with the potential for another 3-5 inches tomorrow…
OK, Victor Martinez has already gone on the record as saying he doesn’t want to go to Free Agency, but wants to stay with the Sox: “I don’t want to be jumping around, I don’t want to go somewhere else…I came to the place where a lot of players dream to come and a lot of players wish to play here in Boston. So I’m here, I do really want to stay here and hopefully end my career in Boston…But I don’t know what’s going to happen. Like I said, I don’t really want to be a free agent. If they give me a chance to be a free agent, I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
Will Theo jump on this great opportunity? We all know Joe Mauer is not leaving the Twins–EVER…Can we get this done, and not have to go through the whole season talking about it?
Did you know that JD Drew is 1 of only 10 players who had an OPS of .900 of higher in 08 and 09? Me either. And the other 9 you ask? Lance Berkman, Matt Holliday, Albert Pujols, Hanley Ramirez, Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, Chase Utley, and Kevin Youkilis–Pretty impressive company…NEVER would have thought that…
Daisuke showed up early this year, arriving last Thursday and by all accounts looks better than he ever did–let’s hope this translates into fewer Jack Daniels and Maalox smoothies at the Boston Red Thoughts home office…
Finally, the Baseball Bloggers Alliance (of which Boston Red Thoughts is a proud member) will be taking to the airwaves. Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, February 16th at 11 pm Eastern, BBA Baseball Talk can be found at Blog Talk Radio.
This weekly one-hour show will discuss the big stories of the day in major league baseball and other baseball-related topics. Callers are welcome to chime in at 347-884-8690.
While hosts will rotate on a weekly basis and the time and date of the show may move depending on the requirements of that week’s hosts, your hosts for the first edition will be BBA founder Daniel Shoptaw, who writes at C70 At The Bat, and Ron Kaplan of Ron Kaplan’s Baseball Bookshelf.
The Baseball Bloggers Alliance, started in 2009, is a confederation of 132 blogs working together for collaboration and discussion possibilities.
Coming up: Besides Pitchers and Catchers in 3 days, other important upcoming dates: Pitchers and Catchers have their 1st official Workout in 5 days on Feb 20th, then a week today, is the deadline for all Position players to report, with February 24th, next Wednesday, the date of the 1st all-squad workout…
