    November 24, 2009:
Mike Lowell on the Block? Not Again!

Posted by Christine E. at 5:27 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

    Oh…Crap…

Look like the Mike Lowell Era will be over soon, as it appears that the Sox are actively shopping him for trading, even willing to go as far as to absorb up to 1/2 his contract for 2010.

And I just bought my freaking Mike Lowell jersey 2 years ago–and I really liked that Jersey-and the player as well. Mike Lowell is a class act from beginning to end, and always seemed to come up big when the Sox needed him too. I know that he hasn’t been the same since his hip problems–but I really believe that this year he would be better, after having enough time to fully heal…Also keep in mind as 1 10 year player, Lowell has the right to nix any trade that is not good for him…

    Oh…Crap…

But if Mike Lowell has to go, Theo has to, has to, HAS TO resign Jason Bay–and he has better do some sort of blockbuster trade as well–Like one of the Adrians…

In my discussions with my friend Paul from Boston, he is of the opinion that the Sox will go after John Lackey, with an eye to trading Clay Buchholz to get either a Roy Halladay, or some other front line starter…Makes sense–although the thought of yet another cranky Texan in the pitching staff makes me a bit queasy…

In a move that surprises no one, DeMarlo Hale will succeed Brad Mills as Bench Coach to Tito Francona. In his 5th season with the Sox, he has spent the last 4 as 3rd base coach for the ballclub…Replacing him at the Hot Corner is 1st Base Coach Tim Bogar (who was also in line for the Bench Coach Job) with Paw Sox Manager Ron Johnson getting the promotion to the bigs as 1st base coach. There will be no other changes to the staff…

In another non-surprise, Joe Mauer won the MVP–can’t imagine anyone more fitting–and I am super glad that Mark Toxemia (who finished 2nd) did not win–but who the HECK is the BBWAA write who actually DIDN’T give Mauer the 1st place nod? (He got 27 out of 28) Ya know, there is always one–and I am sure he has some kind reason–but his vote went to Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers–who was 4th… Mauer joins Ivan Rodriguez (who won in 1999) as the only catcher in over 30 years to win the MVP: Before that, the late Thurman Munson won in 1976…

And, in case you were wondering, Jason Bay finished 7th and Kevin Youkilis finished in the voting…

So JD Drew has left shoulder surgery this week, to clear out the AC joint that was bothering him throughout the 2009 campaign–apparently its so minor, it won’t impact his off season workout, and no time will be lost at all–and in case you were wondering (as I was) the Opt-out clause in his contract for shoulder problems is only for problems with the right shoulder–his left shoulder could FALL OFF, and the Sox would be stuck–friggin Boras…..

Hardware Alert: The Boston BBWAA Awards Dinner, to be held on Thursday January 14, 2010 at the Westin Waterfront Hotel in South Boston–and Tickets are still available for those of you who need the perfect Christmas gift. Award winners include: Jonathan Papelbon, Red Sox Fireman of the Year; Daniel Bard, Red Sox Rookie of the Year; Nick Green, winner of the Jackie Jensen Award, Rockies Manager Jim Tracy, Manager of the Year; and newly minted MVP Joe Mauer, winner of the Ted Williams Award….

Coming up: The Hot Stove is starting to heat up–I just wish the Sox didn’t have to deal with Boras…YUK…
