Rounding out the awards handed out by the Baseball Bloggers Alliance (BBA) for its inaugural 2009 campaign, Catcher Joe Mauer (Minnesota Twins) and first baseman Albert Pujols (St. Louis Cardinals) were overwhelmingly named Most Valuable Player of their respective leagues.
The other awards BBA has handed out this year include:
Manager of the Year: Mike Scioscia (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) and Jim Tracy (Colorado Rockies).
Rookie of the Year: Andrew Bailey (Oakland Athletics) and Andrew McCutchen (Pittsburgh Pirates)
Cy Young: Zack Greinke (Kansas City Royals) Tim Lincecum (San Francisco Giants)
Formed in the fall of 2009 to encourage cooperation and collaboration between baseball bloggers of all major league teams as well as those that follow baseball more generally, BBA has grown to 90 blogs spanning 28 of the 30 major league squads as well as those that focus on general baseball writing. A complete Blogroll can be found at the top of the page…
Organized under a similar structure as the Baseball Writers of America, BBA combines blogs that follow the same team into “chapters” and only two votes from the chapter on an award are counted. Blogs not dedicated to a specific team are allowed to vote on their choice of either the American League or National League award. Ballots are posted on the respective blogs Ballots are posted on the respective blogs and tabulated on a 5-3-1 point scale for first, second and third.
