    October 19, 2009:
Not working out the way I thought it would…

Posted by Christine E. at 4:34 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

I have been saying all along that the Angels would have a better shot of beating the Skanks in the ALCS than they Sox would, given the issues the Sox had to deal with all year (Don’t need to beat the dead horse by listing them again).

    Apparently, I was wrong.

Sloppy plays, multiple errors, and poor hitting has the Angels in a 0-2 hole as they head home to California for this afternoon’s game against the Skanks. And they are in a heap of trouble…

Yes, the weather was dreadful this weekend in the Bronx (I saw more than one player in a hoodie when I would tune in for a minute or 2 from time to time). And, yes, the Angels are used to the warm sunny weather in California, but c’mon. Torii 17 played for like a thousand years in Minnesota, where this weekend’s weather would have been considered balmy….

Could they still come back and advance to the World Series? Sure, that is why they play the best of 7–and the 2004 Sox were a testament to crawling back against all odds–but there is a reason no one has done it before or since–’cause it’s freaking HARD…

If they are going to lose to the Skanks, I would have expected a better showing that this…

And the Phillies massacred the Dodgers’, 11-0 last night in Philadelphia, taking their series lead to 2-1

Are we really looking at the more than likely possibility of a Skankee/Phillies World Series? I can’t even tell you how revolting that its-on so many levels. It will also leave me with no other option but to root for (gulp) the Phillies….UGH…

If the Skanks are going to the World Series, I was sort of hoping they would play the Dodgers, and then the Dodgers grind them into the ground–would be nice payback for Joe Torre…

And would I be bothered by Manny winning another WS series ring? Not really. He is so irrelevant as far as I am concerned, that I don’t really care what he does…

    Onto better news…

Not sure why everyone is talking about this STILL–But John Farrell is officially out of the running for the Cleveland Manager’s job–I thought he said that a week ago? Apparently its all “official” now: “It’s an honor to be considered for the job. Especially for a team that I played for, my father played for and where there are so many people I know and respect. All those things considered, my desire is to fulfill the commitment between Boston and myself.”

And it looks like Billy Wagner won’t be retiring after all. Moments after the Sox loss in the ALDS last Sunday, Wagner was cranky and irritable and said that he may retire, and would not be exploring the free agent market. Well, time is a great equalizer, as evidenced by the statement his Agent Bean Stringfellow (That HAS to be a made up name…): “(Billy Wagner)has every intention of playing next season. He wants a ring, and he did not do all that rehab just to quit now…”

Coming up: The Skanks vs the Angels in California, 4:17pm, for game 3 of the ALCS, and the Phillies and the Dodgers in Philadelphia for Game 4 of the NLCS 8:07pm…
