    Red Sox 10, KC 3:
    3…Is a Magic Number…

Posted by Christine E. at 11:56 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

After beating KC with such ease the last 2 nights, it’s kinda baffling as to why we lost the 1st 2 games. OK, Zack Greinke is probably going to win the Cy Young this year (and was inexplicably ejected from the game in the 2nd inning last night for yelling crap from the dugout…) but there is NO EXCUSE for the loss on Monday night–NONE…

That Clay Person had another great outing, bringing his record to 7-3: 6 2/3 innings of scoreless, 5-run ball, throwing 109 pitches, 69 for strikes. He also struck out 8, hit a batter and walked none

And then of course RR comes in and promptly gives up 3 runs in his 2/3 of work–but surprisingly, he did not let the 2 runners that Buchholz left in the 7th score–which is something…

Takashi Saito came in and finished up the game with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless ball, with a walk and 2 strikeouts…No Demonic Bullpen Tandem membership for him, despite the fact he let an inherited runner score…

I see Kyle Farnsworth is over with KC–I wonder if he is as much of an idiot over there, as he was with the Skanks….probably…

Speaking of Skanks–based on the fact that there is a 6 game separation (and only 10 games left in the season), I am thinking that the drama/trauma quotient for this series has gone WAY down–and ya know what? The Sox are sitting on a Magic # of 3, and are getting into the postseason–and all that matters is getting into the dance, not how you get there…so being crazy about players and pitchers and the like, trying to win the division is silly…

So, for the final time in 2009–To the Blackboard:

If the Sox Sweep: They will leave the Bronx on Sunday 3 Games behind in the AL East…

If the Sox win 2: They will leave the Bronx on Sunday 5 Games behind in the AL East…

If the Sox win 1: They will leave the Bronx on Sunday 7 Games behind in the AL East…

If the Skanks Sweep: The Sox will leave the Bronx on Sunday 9 Games behind in the AL East…

Of course, I hope they sweep, but with the pitching matchups, I don’t hold out much hope for that… Bottom line: I will just be happy of the Sox win one more game, which will give them the season series win against the Skanks….

And, depending on wins and losses for the this series, as well as what the Rangers are doing, the Sox could very well be celebrating their 5th Wild Card Win in the Last 7 years at the Stadium, which would be kinda fun, as the Skanks haven’t been able to celebrate in their house yet (they clinched on the road…) HA HA

Starting the alignment of pitching lineups for the post season, Tim Wakefield’s start has been moved to Wednesday, allowing Clay Buchholz to take the spot after Beckett on Tuesday…

It’s looking more and more likely Jon Lester will get the nod to pitch Game #1 of the ALDS, which will probably begin on October 8th in Anaheim…Beckett would go next, then Buchholz. Wake or Daisuke would be the 4th starter, depending on how things work out…

And the Streaks Continue: Victor Martinez (a career high 23 games, which is also a season high for the Sox and the longest active streak in the majors), and Dustin Pedroia (16 games) hope to extend their hitting streaks in tonight’s contest….

Coming up: Jon Lester gets the nod to kick off this final Sox/Skanks series of the 2009 campaign, opposed by the struggling Joba “Dont call me Jason” Chamberlain. And here is the question just begging to be asked: Do you think he’ll hit Youk tonight? 1st pitch 7:05pm…
