    September 11, 2009:
    True Randomness

Posted by Christine E. at 6:08 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Just a bunch o’ random thoughts on a rainy 9/11, as we wait for Red Sox Baseball to begin again…

I saw the question raised (as it is pretty much every year) about whether or not the Sox will re-sign Wake. As it’s only $4 million, I think, unless his back falls off, they will re-sign him. Supposedly, this surgery is like turning on a light switch, the results are just about immediate, so as long as it’s not anything worse, look for Wake for the 2010 campaign…I just hope we actually see him again in this one…

So, I get this e-mail from The Boston Baseball Band, who has just put out an album called Life Without Manny (isn’t So Bad!) Their lead singer sounds like a young Mick Jagger, and their sound is part blues, part Dead Milkmen, with such classic songs as Dice-K Drives Me Crazy, Joba Chamberlain Hates Kevin Youkilis, and Heidi Watney, You Got Me to Forget About Hazel Mae this album is a riot! You can listen to clips and purchase songs or the whole album on I-Tunes–Check it out!

Despite the fact that they have blown a good number of games, and are home to the Demonic Bullpen Tandem, the Red Sox bullpen STILL lead the AL with a 3.66 ERA, and are 3rd in all of baseball (the Dodgers and the Giants are 1 and 2…) and even the alarming 29.5% of allowing inherited runners to score–is the 3rd BEST in the AL (the Skanks and the Angels are 1 and 2…)

The decision will be made as to where Daisuke will pitch from here, after his excellent outing against Single A Salem. Best case scenario is having him pitch on 6 days rest, and have him start against the Angels on Tuesday, or they could look for another minor league assignment. At this late stage in the game, why bother, just let him pitch…never thought I would say that, but the pitching picture is vastly different than it was when he left…

Since I wasn’t born yet, I never understood it when people (like my parents) would say “I remember where I was, and exactly what I was doing, when President Kennedy was assassinated” But since 9/11, I finally understand–I know where I was and exactly what I was doing when the towers fell–and I will always remember…

Coming up: Jon Lester kicks off the final 3-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays this evening. Let’s hope the momentum of winning the last series in their house helps the Sox take at least 2 of 3 this weekend. James Shields gets the nod for the Rays. 1st pitch 7:10pm
