Red Sox 5, Tampa Bay 8:
And that would be 14 over 5…

Posted by Christine E. at 5:36 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Yep, 14 homers over the last 5 starts for Josh Beckett…oh, and in case you were wondering–he has given up 24 all year…

Can I tell you how much I cannot stand Eva(n) Longoria, (Cannot stand his female counterpart either, but that is a totally other story) Of course, if he played for the Sox, I would love him, but since he DOESN’T…Yep, actively hating him…

This time he beat the Sox, or, more accurately put, MDC gave up the 2 run homer to him in the 8th–after the Sox had clawed back from a 5-1 deficit to tie the game…And of course, MDC only gets “credit” for giving up one run, because the other was in inherited runner by Ramon Ramirez, who gave up 2 of his own…

MDC and RR—they are like some demonic bullpen tandem…can we stop that now, please?

And then there is Josh Beckett: How can a pitcher register an era LESS than 1 on 3 starts, and then the next 2, have an ERA of almost 9? How can he not be hurt? Can this truly only be “mechanics” as the Sox are saying? To be fair, he did settle down after his awful 1st 3 innings, where he gave up 2 homers and 5 runs–to pitch 3 scoreless. But this line is certainly not one befitting the ace of the Boston Red Sox: 6 innings, throwing 104 pitches, 73 for strikes, giving up 5 runs (4 earned, thanks to a rare error by Youk) on 7 hits (including the ubiquitous homers) while walking 1 and striking out 9…Thanks to the bullpen implosion, he was not on the hook for the loss…

And with that (and the fact that the Skanks never seem to lose anymore, and the Rangers won) the Sox are now 7.5 games behind the Skanks, and only 2.5 ahead of the Rangers in the Wild Card–freaking lovely…

Senator…Schilling? Not that it’s all too surprising, but apparently Curt Schilling has been approached to consider running for late Ted Kennedy’s seat in the Senate. From Schill: “While my family is obviously the priority, and 38 Studios is a priority, I do have some interest in the possibility. That being said, to get to there from where I am today, many many things would have to align themselves for that to truly happen. I am not going to comment further on the matter since at this point it would be speculation on top of speculation….My hope is that whatever happens, and whomever it happens to, this state makes the decision and chooses the best person, regardless of sex, race, religion or political affiliation, to help get this state back to the place it deserves to be.” Spoken like a true candidate….

3 days after the cortisone shot that was supposed to calm down Tim Wakefield’s bad back, its time to see if it worked. He will throw a side session, and if (and that, unfortunately, is a pretty big if) all goes well, he may be back in the rotation as soon as next week…But if this did not do the trick, he can actually have surgery NOW, and be ready to go if the Sox make the postseason. My feeling is–if you knew that weeks ago, why all this messing around? Why didn’t he have the surgery WEEKS ago, and he would be all better, and probably back pitching…..CRAP…

And all of this is made SO much better by the fact that freaking Bad Penny! Pitched brilliantly in his 1st start with the Giants–8 innings of scoreless, 5 hit ball–DOUBLE CRAP…

Remember that 6 months ago Aaron Boone had open heart surgery to repair a valve in his aorta? Well, guess what–he made his major league debut last night with the Astros, going 0-3 in the 2-0 loss. This was his 1st game in nearly a year…Impressive…

And did anyone know that Giam-BO has been released by Oakland in August? Me either–must not have liked the ‘stache… So now he is with the Rockies–as is…wait for it…JOSE CONTRERAS–what, are they on CRACK? He is a disaster! But maybe both will do better in the NL, just look at Bad Penny!…

Coming up: The final game at the Trop this year, and one the Sox reallyREALLY need to win–and That Clay Person had better be as sharp as he was over the weekend–because the less involved the bullpen, the better—and the Sox hafta HAFTA win this one…He is opposed by David Price. 1st pitch 7:10pm…
