    Red Sox 8, Toronto 1:
    A Much Needed Sweep…

Posted by Christine E. at 10:31 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Holy Buckets! Did Jon Lester twirl a gem last night or what? 8 Innings of 1 run ball, improving his record to 10-7 with an 3.58 ERA…The rest of his line:3 hits, while walking 2  and striking out 5…

And this sweep gives the Sox a great boost going into the 3-game home series against the Skanks. And, as we always do here at BRT, its time to run the numbers…

    To the Blackboard!

Currently, the Sox are 6.5 games behind the Skanks in the AL East, so…

If the Sox sweep: (while highly unlikely, I would say it’s a bit more likely than it was 2 weeks ago) They would be 3.5 games behind the Skanks, which is far better than where they are standing now,.,.

If the Sox win 2: (Definitely possible…) They would be 5.5 games behind the Skanks, which is still better than where they are standing now….

If the Sox win 1: (Also, Definitely possible) They would be lose a game, being 7.5 games behind…which, at this point, the later in the season it becomes, and the further behind they fall…well, you do the math…

If the Skanks sweep: (I have to believe that the Sox are in a better place than they were 2 weeks ago—and its Fenway Park…) They would be 9.5 games behind the Skanks, and with 42 games left in the year, and only 3 more games head to head in the 2009 campaign, I would have to say, that, unless a miracle happens, the AL East would probably be out of reach…

So, I think by the end of the weekend, the Red Sox picture will become clearer—one way or another…

Coming up: The Sox kick off the 3-game series against the Skanks at Fenway Park. Not my 1st choice for starter, but it is what it is, Bad Penny! gets the start, opposed by Andy Pettitte. 1st pitch 7:10pm…

And a HUGE welcome back to the RemDawg, who will be re-joining DO in the NESN booth on a part time basis, starting tonight. Too bad I won’t get to see him…But next week when I am home, it will be so nice to see him on-air again—although, I will miss Eck, who has been a joy to listen to….hopefully, as Jerry ramps up his activity, we will still see Eck for a while…

    Go Sox!
