    Red Sox 3, Rangers 4:
    45 games left…

Well, at least they weren’t swept…

Another not so wonderful weekend in Red Sox Nation, with the Sox losing 2 to the Rangers in Arlington this weekend.

But HOW ‘BOUT that Game on Friday night??? I cannot even tell you how close I was to turning off the TV in the top of the 9th and the Sox were down 4-2, but am I glad I stayed with it–although I am a bit confused/concerned about the whole Clay Buchholz in to pinch run thing–it all worked out OK, but c’mon–that could have been a disaster…

And I really thought that game would be the impetus that the Sox needed to go on a wild tear…but all this weekend did was lower them deeper into the hole…1/2 game behind Texas for the Wild Card, and 7.5 games behind the Skanks in the AL East–freaking ducky…and time is rapidly running out…

And what about the Sox trading with Cincinnati to acquire Alex Gonzalez this weekend? AMAZING shortstop, but so not any kind of offensive force (having played 68 games with the Red, A-Gon is hitting .210 with 3 home runs and 26 RBI’s…) which, in a lineup that is having a tough time scoring runs, is rather worrisome…

I guess it was time for another installment of “JD can’t play because he strained SOMETHING” this time it’s his groin (Wasn’t it tat last time as well?) So he tells Tito in the 8th inning of Friday night’s game that he cannot play anymore–somehow, Tito convinces him to suck it up stay in the game. Ironically, he hits a 2-run shot in the 6-run rally in the 9th, but now he is out of commission until Wednesday’s game–so the Sox had to demote Josh Reddick to Pawtucket, so they could bring up Brian Anderson (the player they got for Mark Kotsay in that trade with the White Sox) to play in his stead…

Tim Wakefield got his 1st rehab start on Saturday, pitching to batterymate (and fellow DL-er) George Kottaras–and he was, as expected, a little rusty. He threw 63 pitches (40 for strikes) over 3 2/3 innings, giving up 2 runs hits while walking 1 and striking out 3…He is still limping tho…

Daisuke is on the med as well, throwing another bullpen session on Saturday, when he threw 65 pitches–he’ll probably throw again on Tuesday, with in eye to getting back the beginning of September…All told, as of today, he has missed 82 games–or 1/2 the season…

Paul Byrd is also getting himself in game shape, having made 2 starts with the Gulf Coast Red Sox, one of the rookie league teams. He is 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA in those starts, with his next start being with Pawtucket on Wednesday…sounds like he has a ways to go…

Someone who also seems to have a long way to go–yesterday’s starter Junichi Tazawa–and its certainly understandable, as he is only 23 years old, and never pitched in the bigs until last week. He wasn’t horrible in yesterday’s loss, he was just not as sharp as he had been…and if the offense was a little less offensive, he did pitch well enough for the win. His line: 97 pitches, 54 for strikes over 5+, giving up 4 runs on 10 hits (including 2 home runs) while walking 3 and striking out none…

Check out Boston Red Thoughts TV debut from last Saturday, August 15th, when it appeared on Comcast Sports Net New England’s The Baseball Show, as part of their Web Sox Nation segment, hosted by Greg Dickerson.       Check it out below!

Coming up: the last off day for the next 2 weeks, then tomorrow, the Sox kick off the last 3 games of this pretty abysmal road trip (currently 1-2)at the Rodgers Center (doesn’t it feel like they were JUST there?) Kevin Youkilis will be back, after serving his 5-game suspension for jumping the Rick Porcello after he hit him with a pitch last week…Josh Beckett goes for his 15th win of the season, opposed by Ricky Romero for the Blue Jays. 1st pitch 7:07pm.

And, unfortunately, looks like That Clay Person will be losing again–he is starting against Doc Halladay on Wednesday…crap…
