Red Sox 2, Tampa Bay 4–in 13 Innings:
NEITHER team deserved to win this one…

Posted by Christine E. at 11:41 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (3)

So I am watching the Sox AND the Rays load the bases 3 times, and they kept getting runners on base, sometime with no outs, or even 1 out, and then could not close the deal…

And when a feature article is written about a player, it must work like the Sports Illustrated curse…On Monday, there was an article on the Red Sox site, extolling the virtues of how “untouchable” he is, both as trade bait, and that fact that he has thrown 13 innings in a row of 4 hit, no run ball–oh, and did we mention the 23 strikeouts in that span?

Of course, its all bound to end sooner or later, but later would have been preferable, as he came into last night’s contest and gave up a solo shot to tie the game to freaking Eva(n) Longoria, who, incidentally, also won the game with a 2-run shot in the 13th inning off Saito…Bloody Brilliant…Oh, and did I mention Eva(n) also struck out FOUR TIMES last night? So he has 6 at bats, with 4 strikeouts and 2 home runs–HOW does that happen????

And to be honest, I thought the game was over LONG before that, especially when that duo of MDC and Ramon Ramirez came in–they are always good for some walks, hits, and some inherited runners scoring–but surprisingly, they both got some great breaks and managed to escape unscathed…

Oh, and by the way, because the Sox are currently carrying 11 pitchers instead of 12, they used ALL of their relievers last night–Saito was it–if it has went on any longer, freaking Clay Buchholz was coming in…So look for a new reliever to be with the club for this evening, probably Michael Bowden…meaning a roster move, which is always interesting…

And lost in all the mix was the 6 innings of strong pitching by Jon Lester, who did not factor into the decision. Throwing 110 pitches (68 for strikes) he gave up 1 run on 3 hits while walking 2, hitting Carlos Pena and striking out TEN…

So now the Sox are 1.5 games behind the Skanks–with one more to play against Tampa Bay and then FOUR against the Skanks…Oh, and I checked who the Sox where playing when I am at the shore at the end of the month? Yep–3 against the Skanks…lets hope that they fare better than they did when I was at the shore in 2006–when the Boston Massacre, part 907, happened…

So, apparently, Big Papi is STILL waiting for the test results of his positive PED test from 2003, as he does not even know what he tested positive for? How can this be? Doesn’t an individual have the right to his own records? I find it VERY hard to believe that he was never told of the positive result–and what about the other 100 or so players who haven’t been leaked yet? I guess they dont have a clue that they are on the list? How can the Players Association say they have the best interests of their players in mind, if the players don’t have the knowledge they need? If I were the players, I would start clamoring long and hard to find out if they are on that list, and start damage control now–because you KNOW that list is going to come out–and it would be better to be proactive about it, rather than waiting for the other show to drop. I, personally would go crazy worrying about it, if that was me…From Tito: “Unfortunately, the answer is that we need to stay patient and wait, and that’s a hard one. That’s where we’re at. I’ve talked to a lot of people. We need to just wait. I don’t know if that’s the funnest thing for anybody, but that’s what we need to do…This is not David right now. We’re waiting. We’re all on hold.”

Injured Pitcher Update: Looks like both Daisuke and Wake are making progress in their rehabs, for shoulder weakness, and lower back strain, respectively . Daisuke, who has been throwing at 120 feet, is tentatively scheduled to throw his 1st side session sometime next week–knowing him, he’ll want to throw 309 pitches…

Wake, whose back woes have morphed into a sciatica nightmare, is scheduled to throw a side session today. From Wake: “My calf has shut down. There’s zero strength in there right now. The soreness in my calf has gone down, and I feel better when I walk even though I’m limping a little bit.” The concern is not about his pitching, but his ability to field his position…

Jason Bay is also dealing with nagging leg ailment–cramping in his left hamstring, which has kept him out yet another day. He has not played since the 6th inning on Saturday night when he left the game. The hope is that another day or so will be enough to get it resolved, and that he will be back in the lineup for tonight’s game. Before Saturday, he played 111 out of 113 games, which probably was a bit much…Fortunately, Josh Reddick, who was called up on Friday, to replace JD Drew (who was back in the lineup yesterday) was able to play in left…

RemDawg is apparently doing better, at least accordingly to his son, Jared (yeah, the son fired by the Sox (he was a security guard) for steroid use…): He’s getting better. The cancer is gone. He’s starting to walk a little and get his lung span back.’’ But NESN is mum on any further info, including a date for his return to the both–Don’t get me wrong, Eck is sensational in the booth, and its nice to see Dave Roberts on a regular basis–but this is REMDAWG we are talking about…

Coming up: Bad Penny! takes the mound against the Rays best-est and brightest–David Price….this could get VERY ugly, as the Sox are out of relievers, and Penny can’t seem to get past the 5th inning…1st pitch 7:10pm…
