    July 24, 2009:
The Weekend we have all been waiting for…

And no one has waited for this moment more than Jim Rice…

After having to wait until the bitter end (I guess #15 is the charm) in the balloting process, Jim Rice will take his place in history as he is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday in Cooperstown NY… From Jim Ed: “You just cherish what you have. You cherish that you’re in the Hall of Fame. You cherish that you’re in an elite category of guys that have played the game and have played the game one way — hard.”

Also being inducted are Ricky Henderson, (with 94.8% of the vote) who I am sure will be the Ricky-est Ricky he knows how to be, and Yankee/Indian 2nd baseman Joe Gordon, who will be inducted posthumously, after being elected by the Veteran’s Committee in December….

And while I understand the balloting is done in such a way to ensure only the very best get in, I think 75% is waaaaaaay too high–There are so many good players over the years that should be in the hall, but will never be–and the Veteran’s Committee is even WORSE–I mean REALLY, have they ever elected someone who played after 1945??

About a week to go before the July 31st deadline–the big question is: Is Adam LaRoche the “big acquisition” of does Theo have something else planned? Another big bat would be helpful (Victor Martinez or Adrian Gonzales) would not be unwelcome), as well as (all of a sudden) another pitcher…As always, it will be interesting to see how it plays out….

Congratulations to White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle, who threw a perfect game last night, the 1st in 5 years…

Do I need to mention the Skanks won their freaking 7th in a row, and the Sox are now 2.5 games behind? From 3 ahead to 2.5 behind–in a week–Freaking wonderful…

Adam LaRoche will be in uniform and available for tonight’s game–I am curious to see what move is made to accommodate him on the 25 man…drop a pitcher? Designate (or place on the DL with his calf injury) Mark Kotsay?

Coming up: The Nation looks to Bad Penny! to stop the skid, which is only fitting, cause he STARTED IT, as he kicks off a 6-game homestand against the Oreos. (although I should note the last time he faced them, he got lit up–8 runs..UGH) This is also the start of 10 games against last place teams–let’s hope the Sox take advantage of it…He is opposed by Brad Bergesen. 1st pitch 7:10pm…
