    Red Sox 4, Skankees 3:
    Crazy Eights…

Posted by Christine E. at 5:04 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Holy…Buckets…!!! I thought the Sox were toast when they were down 3-1 in the 8th inning, thanks to a mini meltdown by MDC. And it’s a shame, as Bad Penny! actually pitched his heart out on this one, throwing 117 pitches (76 for strikes) over 6 innings of scoreless ball, limiting the Skanks to 6 hits while walking 1, hitting A-Fraud and striking out 5-0-all in all, a great day’s work…

And just as I am typing this, my random shuffle on my I-Pod comes up with Merry Frickin Christmas by Frickin A, who wrote the song after the Sox won the 2004 World Series…Seems somehow appropriate for 8-0 in the season series…

So CC Sabathia takes the loss, due in part to Aceves allowing 2 inherited runners to score…so now his record stands at 5-4…$161 million just does not buy what it used to…HA HA

I am sure it happens, I don’t recall a recent team completely dominating another like the Sox are doing to the Skanks–and because of it, the Sox only have to win TWO more games in the next 10 the play with the Skanks to win the season series…

So now we wait a little less than 2 months (!) until August 6th, when the Sox and Skanks will meet again in New York–Lets hope they are 10 games behind by then…Oh, and did I mention the Sox are now 2 games ahead of the Skanks, in 1st place in the AL East….

Neato Stats: The Sox and the Skanks have faced each other 900 times over the last hundred+ years. In that span, surprisingly, the Sox have won 450, the Skanks 446, and their have been 4 tie ballgames…And, since 2003, the Sox are 68-65 against the Skanks…

John Smoltz’s final rehab start was postponed until today, as the rain in Syracuse made it impossible to play–so it looks like his 1st start in a Red Sox uniform will be Wednesday now, and of course I have something going on, so I’ll have to TiVo it….CRAP…

Its official, Jed Lowrie is going to Single A Lowell, starting Monday, working out with them, to ease himself back into baseball mode (Their season doesn’t begin until the 19th). Then, after a couple of days, he will be moved to Pawtucket, or extended Spring Training…Until that time, lets just hope the Sox continue to keep Lugo on the bench (as he has been for the last 5 games–4 of which the Sox have won, I might add…) and Nick Green in the mix…

Coming up: The Sox come to my home state of PA and will face the Phillies this weekend for 3, in part 2 of interleague play. The big question is will Big Papi play 1st base? Since they are in a NL park, the DH does not apply. His home run last night off Sabathia, his 4th of the season, and his 3rd this homestand (all of his homers have been at Fenway), are all good signs that the indescribably awful slump he was in is coming to an end…it will be interesting to see…Jon Lester gets the start for the Sox, opposed by Joe Blanton (didn’t he use to pitch for Minnesota??) 1st pitch: 7:05pm…
