    June 9, 2009:
    Just another Red Sox/Skankee Series…

Posted by Christine E. at 2:31 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

I am sorry, it’s hard to get super worked up about a 3 game series in the middle of the week in June, especially since the Sox have beaten the Skanks every time this season. Now, I know that the Skanks are a drastically different team than they were 5 weeks ago…But I still think the Sox chances are good to win at least 2…

I’m just glad Daisuke will not be pitching in this series….

Once again, Big Papi passed his eye test–but they gave him drops for dry eye–not sure if dry eye can cause you to miss fastballs, but whatever…Jacoby Ellsbury also got a good report, as no structural damage to his shoulder was found from his slide in Sunday’s game. He is currently day to day…Then factor in JD Drew’s shoulder woes (he should be back in tonight’s lineup) Mark Kotsay’s return could not come at a better time…Not only is he versatile in the outfield, he can spell Youk at 1st base, and provides good pop off the bench–he went 2-3 with a homer run and scored 2 runs in his 1st game back…

Remember how Josh Hamilton was on the DL–unfortunately, rest and rehab was not the answer for his partially torn ab muscle. He is having surgery to repair the tear today, and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks…So no All-Star Game/Home Run Derby for him this year–which sucks, because his performance at the Derby last year was probably the…best…derby…ever…

And now, since we are into the season far enough its time for Boston Red Thoughts’ AL East Standings Bingo! Whoo Hoo! Let’s go to the blackboard!

As we all know, the Sox will face the Skanks for 3 at Fenway starting tonight. And this is a very different club than the one the Sox have beaten in every other matchup this season thus far. So I think these games could be very interesting…

The Sox are currently 1 game behind the Skanks. So:

If the Sox Sweep, they will be 2 games ahead of the Skanks (COULD happen, I just don’t think that it will)

If the Sox Win 2: They will be tied for 1st place with the Skanks (much more likely…)

If the Sox Win 1: They will be 2 games behind the Skanks

If the Skanks Sweep: The Sox will be 4 games behind the Skanks…and not in a good place at all…

My prediction? The Sox will win 2–and I am thinking the 1st 2, because I am not super confident in the skills of Bad Penny!–although I am more confident in him than in Daisuke…

And no Sox/Skanks series would be complete without a stupid remark from A-Fraud: “We’re battling. The one thing I like is every game we’re fighting to the end. We’re developing good habits and some character.” Good habits? Character? Oh really? I dont think you can develop something unless it’s already there–maybe you’d have better luck with a character IMPLANT…

Coming up: Josh Beckett takes the mound in the 1st of 3 games against the Skanks. He is opposed by AJ Burnett. 1st pitch 7:10pm
