    June 2, 2009:
Starting the End of a Long Road Trip…

Posted by Christine E. at 4:35 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

While they do have another long road trip at the end of this month, that one consisting of 9 road games in a row without a day off, this is the longest one of the 2009 campaign in terms of games played on the road in 1 trip, with 10. Right now, 7 games in, the Sox are 3-4, with 3 more to play against Detroit. Best case scenario? They could return home on Friday to face the “Dark Bright Blue Team” (aka the Rangers) 6-4, which is pretty respectable. Or, they could return home 3-7, which pretty much sucks out loud–or they could end up somewhere in the middle…

And what is going to happen, is anyone’s guess. But I will tell you this, I don’t feel whole boatloads of confidence when I see Daisuke on the mound–AT ALL…If he doesn’t turn it around, it will get very interesting when John Smoltz is ready to go….

So it begins–Johnny Damon, who is pretty much breaking down (can’t play center field anymore…) will be a free agent next years–and the questions are already starting about whether or not the Sox will try and re-sign him–my response to that is: ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME??? Not only did he go to the Skanks (after telling everyone he would never do that) and while I cannot fault him for going where the money is, his big fricken mouth is what I found so distasteful. I will respect him for 2004–but I sure as &#*@(&#*@& don’t want him back as a member of the Boston Red Sox…

Looks like Jed Lowrie is still doing well, continuing his hitting rehab work, and will probably be facing live pitching within the next week or so…

And, expect Mark Kotsay to be activated for tonight’s game, his 1st Sox game of the 2009 campaign–I wonder who will be removed from the 25 man to accommodate him?

A month today, the polls close on the 2009 All Star Game 11:59pm on July 2)–until then, you have 25 chances per e-mail address to vote for your favorites: Here is the latest update: Jason Bay, Kevin Youkilis are still leading their respective positions, (Jason leading all outfielders) with Dustin Pedroia currently in 2nd for 2nd, Mike Lowell is 4th, Jason Varitek is 2nd, Jacoby Ellsbury is 11th, and JD Drew is 13th in outfield voting…

Hardware: AAA pitcher Clay Buchholz and AA outfielder Aaron Bates both won their respective /pitcher player of the week award. This is the 2nd award of this type for both of them this year thus far…And I never thought I would say this: When the HELL are the Sox going to bring Clay Buchholz up???

Fellow battery mate and blogger Chad Finn wrote a great piece for the Glob yesterday, saying something positive about every player the Sox have…almost…funny and accurate read–check it out…

Finally if you happen to be in the neighborhood this summer, the hottest new Irish Pub in Boston, right on Fenway’s doorstep, is the place to be: The Landsdowne Pub, located at #9 Landsdowne Street, will offer ” …an authentic Irish experience, from its classic Irish cuisine (such as Fish & Chips, Ploughman’s Lunch, Shepard’s Pie, Irish Stew, and Bangers & Mash) to its made-in-Ireland bar to its traditional music. The 8,000-square foot venue includes a 64-foot bar, two Snugs with working fireplaces and private bars, a communal bar/table, and a 35-seat outdoor patio.” As Irish cuisine and atmosphere are big favorites of mine and my husbands, this will definitely be a place on our itinerary when we journey to the Holy Land in August–I’ll let you know all about it!

Coming up: The last pitcher in the rotation to inspire any confidence (can’t he get “hurt” again and go on the DL, so someone, ANYONE else can pitch???) takes the mound tonight, Daisuke. He is opposed by Tiger’s starter Rick Porcello. 1st pitch: 7:05pm
