    Red Sox 4, Angels 3:
Have I Ever Mentioned I Hate Left Coast Games?

Posted by Christine E. at 4:39 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Its midnight, and I am falling asleep, watching the Red Sox play (There are certainly worse ways of falling asleep) but it’s only the freaking 5th inning! Unfortunately, we have 3 more middle of the night games–including tonight’s. Fortunately, after this week, the Sox are DONE with Middle of the night game for the rest of the 2009 campaign–which is WAY cool…

So, Justin Masterson was pretty much channeling Daisuke (who will be back in the rotation soon), throwing 105 pitch (65 for strikes) over 6 innings of work, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, while walking 4, hitting a batter and striking out 3. Looks like we know who Daisuke will be replacing when he gets back–and it won’t even seem like a change…

And so, after playing 43 games, the Sox are a very respectable 21-12, which is 3rd best in the majors, and are currently 1 game behind Toronto (Skanks are 6.5 games behind–HA HA…)

More wounded: In a move that surprised no one, Kevin Youkilis has been placed on the DL with left oblique strain, retroactive to May 5th…Youk hopes to be back on May 20th–the 1st day he is eligible to be reactivated. Gil Velazquez replaces him on the 25-man, which was necessary because, with Dustin Pedroia out, ROCCO BALDELLI was to be the infield backup…

But it looks like Dustin Pedroia, who left Sunday night’s game with groin strain, will be back in the lineup for tonight’s game 2 against the Angels…

Finished “The Yankee Years” by Joe Torre yesterday. I thought it was a great book, good story, and remarkably even handed, considering how crappy the Skanks Management treated him in the last couple years he managed the team. Not sure why he put up with as much as he did. One thing I did not like was there was an interview with Joe by Tom Verducci (who do wrote the book with him) and he stated that his favorite memory of his 12 years as a Yankee, was the Aaron ^*#&@)*(&#@*Boone homer in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS…Not enough A-Rod and Clemens bashing for me, but overall, worth checking out…

Speaking of Torre, he seems to think that Manny should come to the Dodger’s clubhouse and “soak up the love”: “…He’s (Manny) beaten up over this, not that he thinks it’s unfair, it’s just that he’s embarrassed and I think he just needs some time to clear his head. The sooner the better for everybody involved. We want to see him as a team. The players are supporting him because we know him as a person and we want to help him through that…He needs to just give the players a chance to hug him or talk to him. I don’t think he needs to address the players, just to show up. It won’t be anything negative…” More than a little revolting…

Speaking of revolting–who had May 13th as the day the 1st article of the season shows up about “JD Drew is poised to bust out” pool? Cause there was one this morning on the Red Sox Page C’mon guys, you have been writing these articles all year long, for as long as Drew has been with the Sox–and I think he “broke out” ONCE–last June…Give it a rest…

Coming up: Tim Wakefield, who seems to be the only consistent member of the starting rotation right now (A consistent knuckleballer, how is that for irony–or is it an oxymoron–or is it BOTH?) He is opposed by Matt Palmer for Anaheim. 1st pitch 10:05pm…
