April 24, 2009:
Countdown to 7:10…
Just some randomness before the 1st Sox/Skanks series of the 2009 campaign: Is it just me, or are they much less “ARGH!!!!!!!” than they used to be? I guess 2 World Series in 5 years is a great equalizer…
So the Sox have brought back Kason Gabbard, whom they gave up to the Rangers in that worthless trade for Eric Gagne. They got him back for cash considerations (Whatever that means…) Not sure why they chose to do this. He hasn’t played in the bigs since before the All-Star break last year, as he has surgery to remove bone spur from his pitching arm. This year, he has been in the rangers minor league system, with a 0-1 10.50 ERA. Why do we need another minor league pitcher who has a huge ERA? Isn’t that what we have Clay Buchholz for?
Back at the end of Spring Training, Chris Carter inched past Jeff Bailey to get the final spot on the 25 man roster to open the season in the bigs. Now, Jeff Bailey is up, and Chris Carter has been optioned to Pawtucket–not that he has been anything spectacular in his very limited play–5 AB, going 0-5–with 4 strike outs…
It interesting to note the Skankee cornerstone of their starting 5 will not be appearing at Fenway Park this weekend–CC Sabathia, who hasn’t exactly been what the Skanks had hoped for when they spent $168 MILLION DOLLARS on him. In 4 starts he is 1-1 with a 4.81 ERA–HA HA. The Sox will face, Joba the Hut, AJ Burnett (another arm of that 1/2 BILLION dollar trinity) and Andy Pettitte, who just does not seem to have the ability to seriously &*(#@&*&#@*()& the Sox up anymore…
So how long do the think the YES commentators will go on about Mark Toxemia and Mike Lowell tonight? Too FREAKING long…one bright spot in listening to them, when the Skanks tank, they throw them RIGHT under a bus…fun times!
And I FORGOT! We will not be seeing A-Fraud tonight, as he is still rehabbing his hip from his surgery, and is not expected back until after the next series against the Skanks, which is May 4 & 5 (yeah, a 2-fer on a Monday/Tuesday–weirdness) So no Slappy McBlue Lips, which I am sure all of us are very broken up about…
Tonight: Jon Lester and Joba Chamberlain, Sox vs the Skanks, for all the marbles (yeah, I know, it’s April…) 1st pitch 7:10pm.
And, if you are in the Boston Area without tickets to tonight’s game, The House of Blues on Lansdowne Street will be hosting a viewing party. The venue seats 2400, and a special large screen will be set up for the occasion. Admission is free, and doors open at 5:00pm. Food and Beverages will be available through the game, from both the House of Blues Restaurant, and the music hall’s concession stand. Wish I was going to be there tonight, sounds like a great time…
