    Red Sox 12, Oreos 1:
    Sweeping for 4…

Posted by Christine E. at 5:27 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Justin Masterson, with his 1st win in the 2009 campaign (no big surprise here) went 5 1/3 innings, throwing 84 pitches (56 for strikes) and giving up the only run (and the only 4 hits) the cookies scored in the entire contest. He also struck out 3 and walked 2…

The rest of the bullpen (MDC, Okajima, Javier Lopez and Hunter Jones, in his major league debut) threw a 3 2/3 inning no-hitter…with a strikeout and 2 walks between the 4 of them…

Of the Oreos, Mark Hendrickson, who has been dreadful of late, and will probably not be in the rotation much longer, was not even the worst of it for the cookies yesterday–that dubious honor goes to Radhames Liz, whose ERA is actually higher than Chien Ming Wang’s with 67.50–and he gave up 6 earned runs in 1/3 inning of work…

And how come the amazing stuff always happens when I am not watching? Papi? A triple? Always a sight to see…

Shortstop update: While it looks like surgery is on the horizon for Jed Lowrie, like THIS MORNING, it probably will not be season ending. Instead of the procedure that would end the season for him, they will be going the option of scoping and removing the fractured bone, which means he can be back in 6-8 weeks. Please, yes, anything, to get him back, as Julio the Useless is starting his 1st minor league rehab with Pawtucket TODAY, which means him being back with the Sox is not far behind…Oh, and I just thought I could mention that his knee still hurts when he fields–as if he wasn’t horrible enough….UGH…

Daisuke will be starting his throwing today, playing catch from about 60 feet. His timetable for a return is not known at this point…

In a shocking move, Brad Wilkerson played his 2nd game at Pawtucket, and then retired…boy, it must have been one hell of a game…

So Joba the Hut is pitching for the Skanks on Friday night–I say he hits Youk in the head in the 2nd inning…

And from our friends at eTrueSports.com:  The Skanks aren’t very happy with Chien-Ming Wang, and his history making performance (giving up more runs in his first 3 starts (23) than any other pitcher in the history of the Yankees–so for that, effectively immediately, there is a Chinese Food ban at The Stadium.  No word if the ban will be lifted if his performance improves.  For the rest of the story…

Coming up: A two-fer with Minnesota, with Tim Wakefield trying to build on his brilliant complete came performance of last week–which means he’ll give up 8 runs in the 1st inning…He is opposed by Twin hurler, Scott Baker (who has a 13.50 ERA after being shelled last week–but has kicked Red Sox ass before..) 1st pitch is 7:10pm
