    April 7, 2008:
Let’s try that again: Happy Opening Day!

With the potential for it to be even colder and more miserable–The weather forecast from weather.gov:

Today: A chance of showers, mainly before 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Breezy, with a west wind between 13 and 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. West wind between 11 and 18 mph.

The Sox will take to the field this afternoon to play the game they were supposed to play yesterday–the 1st of the year. At least they don’t play 1 game and then get a day off, now playing for the next 9 days in a row–including 3 in the middle of the night, as they head off to sunny California after this 3 game stint with the Rays…

We do have to give kudos to the management of the Red Sox for calling the game a full 4 hours before game time–saving people a ton of aggravation and money–not having to spend $40-50 to park, then sitting in the rain/cold/uckiness, and then spending money on food and such, since the only thing to do in the rain/cold/uckiness is eat. So while it was a disappointment that Opening Day at Fenway was rained out–but it could have been a lot worse…

And because of the rainout, Brad Penny will be making his Red Sox debut a day earlier, flip flopping with Josh Beckett, who will now take the start against the Angels on the 12th…

So, I am on facebook last night, and I see that the Skanks lost–so I jump on MLB.com to get the full scoopage on the loss–and what I see sends me into shrieks of hysterical laughter: Losing 5 to the Oreo’s????? Mark Toxemia: 0-4, leaving 5 men on base, and CC Sabathia, 4.1 inning, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits, while walking 5, throwing 2 wild pitches, and having zero strikeouts…Holy Buckets! 1/2 billion dollars sure doesn’t buy what it used to…..HA HA

Yeah, Yeah, I know, this is probably not a trend, and the Skanks will be in the thick of it for the season–and the Sox could very well get lit up today–but the fact that the Skanks spent ALL that money, only to be humiliated by the worst team in the AL East on Opening Day–good times!

Not so good times: Julio Lugo is going back to Fort Myers to ramp up his rehab schedule–and it looks like he will be going for a minor league stint as early as next week. From Tito: “After about a week, we’ll kind of see how he’s doing. The one thing we really want him to be able to do is to be able to play before he starts playing in games, not just DH. And maybe try to get him to where he’s going to go have him play and then see where the best place to let him start is.” DH–are you *&#(*@&()*@&#*()& kidding me? Noooooooooooo!

Some Red Sox postponement trivia: yesterday was the 1st rainout of a Red Sox Home Opener since 2003, and the 1st Opening Day postponement since 1982, when snow hit Chicago, causing the game to be moved….

Coming up: Again, the Red Sox will be donning their home whites and taking their positions on the field, as we kick off the 2009 campaign against Tampa Bay. The Sox are still hopeful that Senator Ted Kennedy, who is battling a brain tumor, will throw the 1st pitch if he is up to it. Josh Beckett on the mound, 1st pitch (hopefully) at 4:06pm. James Shields gets the nod for the Rays…
