    January 5, 2009:
    1st Day Back…

Posted by Christine E. at 3:58 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Holy Buckets! It’s amazing how 11 days off can wreak havoc with your schedule…but then again, so can the only 3 hours of sleep I got because of my concern about sleeping through the alarm…

So here are some random Red Thoughts on our 1st day back after all of the holiday…stuff:

Having caught some of the newest thing in baseball, the MLB Network, I think it is way cool–but it totally does not mitigate that there is still THREE MONTHS until any baseball of import (I am not including the WBC in this, obviously) happens.

It also does not negate the fact that these is STILL bupkus going on, and while re-signing Josh Bard is nice and all, and I am happy to have Brad Penny into the fold, it’s nothing HUGE…

And I am not talking about spending-way-too-much-money-on-just-about-everyone-in-a-desperate-attempt-to-BUY-a-pennant. I’m talking about signing a GREAT player–making a great deal…and while I am glad the Skanks are going to throw stupid money at Mark Teixeira (and that Mike Lowell is more than likely not going anywhere)–I am still a bit annoyed about the whole deal with regard to the fact that the Sox could have had him…

And before anyone thinking I am whining that the Skanks spend too much money, think again–I thoroughly ENJOY the fact that the Skanks spend ridiculous amounts of money signing all of these players–cause the fact that they have spent well over a BILLION dollars in the last few years–and have not won a World Series since 2000, makes me smile…

What is the definition of insanity, Part 6,248: There are actually people out in the cyber-sports world who are wondering if they Sox would consider signing–wait for it–MANNY RAMIREZ! Are you *&)#@*&)&#^@&#&@^#@ KIDDING ME???

And, has anyone else noticed that the only big name client of Boras’ who has anything to show for anything this off-season is Mark Teixeira–haven’t really heard a ton about, Manny, of ‘Tek, or even Derek Lowe…Yeah, there is some stuff offers out there for some of them–but nothing significant–and all are WAY less than they expected/wanted/feel entitled to….Guess he can only manipulate 1 situation at a time…

And while I feel bad for Jason Varitek with regard to how the postseason is shaping up for him, I would feel much worse for him if his agent wasn’t SATAN…

But, former Toronto catcher, Greg Zaun is making noise about how much he wants to come and play for the Red Sox: “…My agent has had ongoing talks with Boston and I would love to see that happen. I feel one of the things I have going in my favor is being in Toronto for so long I have a deep knowledge of the AL East. I would also love the challenge of playing in Boston, where every day you go to the ballpark it’s a meaningful game and you’re fighting for something…” Oh, Sweet mother, no…

Alan Embree has decided not to retire, and continue pitching–and, no, I don’t think he had indicated an interest to pitch again for the Red Sox…

Neato factoid: Did you kiore that any one team can sign up to 9 Type A or Type B free Agents in the off-season? With all those free agents, they would lose just about (if not) all of their draft picks, but they can do it…Sounds like a typical off-season for the Skanks…

For those of your who are familiar with the YouCastr Sports Network (I have written about them before ), check this out: Tomorrow, January 6th, two YouCastr members, GMoftheYear and Seriew79 will announce the best of the best of YouCastr in 2008, as voted on by the community. With awards such as “Most Passionate Sports Fan,” “Best Show Production,” and the top prize of “Castr of the Year”, this is an awards show you do not want to miss! The all night event on YouCastr begins with a red carpet show leading up to the awards. For more info…

Coming up: Less than a week remains to see if Jim Ed will finally (and rightfully!) be given the nod for the Hall of Fame…
