    December 29, 2008:
    Most Excellent Christmas Bling!

Posted by Christine E. at 12:20 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

WreathThanks to our family, my husband and I picked up some most excellent Red Sox Bling for Christmas!

From my stepdaughters, my husband got this fabulous Christmas wreath, which was proudly displayed on the front door within minutes of its unwrapping…

    Mug 1

And from my niece, my husband and I got these matchiMug 2ng mugs, which as we are both HUGE tea and coffee drinkers, will get a ton of use out of…

    Necklace

And, then, from my Mom, I got this most excellent Red Sox Charm necklace, featuring the Sox logo, as well as the hat. Please notice the use of the iconic “B” on the hat, rather than the “hanging sox”

And, of course, I got the present I most wanted: Because of the Mark Teixeira trade falling through, Mike Lowell will be staying with the Sox–Whoo Hoo!

Let me chime in a on the whole Mark Teixeira thing: While I am not sad he was not signed by the Sox, I am disappointed that the Skanks got him for a few pennies (relatively speaking) that what the Sox offered. But I really dont think he would have made the Sox that much better than they are now, provided Mike Lowell is a healthy Mike Lowell, and no one horribly slumps this year….

So that would be almost a HALF A BILLION DOLLARS the Skanks have paid for 3 players–And let’s all hope that what happened to the Tigers last year (signed all these supposedly amazing players at ridiculous money–and then TANKED) happens to them…

And for those of you who are still freaking out: in 2002, the Red Sox had (2) 20 game winners (Derek Lowe and Pedro Martinez) and Manny Ramirez, AND started out with a 40-17 record–and did not even make the postseason…’Nuff said…

And the potential signing of Brad Penny (1 year, $5 million, with performance bonuses) and the resigning of Josh Bard (remember him? The one the Sox traded to get Doug Mirabelli back, cause Bard could not catch Wake?) They offered him a 1 year, $1.6 million non guaranteed with an option.

Welcome to Red Sox Nation Parker Alice Papelbon! Jonathan and Ashley welcomes baby girl Parker this weekend, weighing in at 8 pounds, 4 ounces

I got a note from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, who asked that I pass along that on Tuesday, January 27th at 8:00pm they are hosting a Hot Stove Discussion between Jon Lester and Joba Chamberlain as part of their student lecture series. Tickets are $20.00 for adults, and $10 for children under 12, if you are in the neighborhood. For more info, or to purchase tickets you can check out their website, call 203-371-7846 or e-mail

Coming up: With Mark Teixeira off the table, look for the Scott Boras song and dance to ramp up with regard to Manny Ramirez, and Jason Varitek…

And we are at the less than 100 day days (98 to be exact) until Opening Day!
