    December 22, 2008:
    Convoluted, Thy Name is Teixeira…

Posted by Christine E. at 12:22 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Holy…Buckets! As if this whole deal isn’t crazy enough…

Just to recap: There once were 4 (maybe 5, if you include the Skanks) teams in the running for the services of Mark Teixeira, the hottest prospect in the 2008/2009 off season. And, since his agent is the Anti-Christ, everyone knew that this was going to drag on, and end up costing some team a ton of money, not to mention A LOT of years…

OK, the 4 teams (not including the Skanks) were the Sox, the Angels (where Teixeira played the last 3 months of the season in 08) The Oreos, and the Nationals. And everyone had a 7-8 year deal on the table, and, depending on who you asked, were valued from $140-200 million….

And the buzz around town was that the Sox had all but buttoned Teixeira up, and that it was only a matter of time before he would be in a Red Sox uniform…

THEN, the Sox decide on Thursday night that they are “no longer a factor” in the Teixeira sweepstakes, after, supposedly, being told that the number was 8 years, $195 million dollars, or $24.3 per year….

Then, over the weekend, the buzz around town is that the Sox are still in the game, as are just doing the negotiation tap dance with Satan….which is entirely possible, as everyone knows what Boras is capable of…

And if I were one of Satan’s minions (er…CLIENTS) I woudl be a bit miffed that everything seems to be at a standstill while the world waits on Mark Teixeira….

so THEN, I hear that now the ANGELS have backed out of negotiations: “We have indeed withdrawn our offer and ceased negotiations” Apparently, owner Arte Moreno thinks the Angels are only being used to drive up the price, and that Teixeira never had any intention of returning to LA…

At least their statement is less ambiguous…Sounds pretty final to me…

And the Sox are saying NUTHIN…

So, for those of you playing along at home: The Sox and the Angels are out (supposedly) so that leaves the Skanks (who have yet to submit any type of big–they are just doing the lurking thing) the Oreos and the Nationals…But you KNOW Boras will do his damndest to get the Skanks involved…despite the fact they have already spent a 1/4 BILLION dollars on 2 pitchers….

How FUN will it be if Boras has to do some ass kissing to get the Sox/Angels back, if he cannot get the Skanks to bit, and Teixeira tells him he doesn’t want to play for a losing team, no matter how much they pay him…HA HA…

My friend, Frank from E-True Sports had this super suggestion: “…couldn’t Obama do something about Boras? Deportation has a nice ring.  Some place cold….”

    Works…For…Me…

FYI: Ballots for the Hall of Fame Voting are due. So if you have not signed, sealed and delivers–you had better do so….Remember: Think Jim Ed!

How funny is THIS? Jason Giam-BO to Tampa Bay??? It could happen. Apparently, they are looking for another bat, and he is out of a job… Great, we’ll get to see that greasy troll with the Swingtown mustache again…..YUK…

Have you ever heard of the “Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal’s”? Me neither. But they named John Henry, principal owner of the Boston Red Sox, 20th in their “50 Most Influential People in Sports Business” list, having this to say about him: “Soft-spoken yet doggedly focused, Henry has remained resilient while dramas such as the Manny Ramirez saga cascade his way with little to no long-term damage.” In case you were wondering: Hank Steinbrenner was 28, and Scott Boras was 42…

Coming up: I am kicking off my 13 day vacation today–Whoo Hoo!
