    December 16, 2008:
    All I want for Christmas…

Posted by Christine E. at 1:37 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

    Is to keep Mike Lowell…

Unfortunately, the Sox are arming for bear to acquire Mark Teixeira, and if they get him, Mike Lowell will probably be the one to go…

And rumor has it, the Sox have made their offer–no one knows what that is, as the ever popular “we don’t discuss ongoing negotiations–or even if there are negotiations…”

Personally, I think if it’s all about money (and with Satan as his agent, you KNOW that will be a big part of it), the Sox have it all wrapped up (pun definitely not intended) Very few teams have the resources (not to mention very deep pockets) that the Sox do. And we already know the Sox want this guy…bad…and I haven’t heard any: “Oh! I reallyREALLY want to play for the Skanks” rumblings coming from Teixeira, or Satan…)

But even it’s not all about the money–do you REALLY think he is going to want to play for the Oreos or the Nationals? Both teams SUCK…I don’t care how much money they are offering. A player of his caliber wants to win (or at least have a really good chance to) every year. And if he DOES decide to play for one of these teams because they are offering the most money, 10 to 1 he will have an opt out clause, so he can bail after he sucks as much money from them as possible, then sign somewhere else for even more money…

Hey, it worked for AJ Burnett, who just signed a 5-year, $82.5 million contract with the Skanks. $82.5 million–for a player with a 87-76 career record…Who has won more than 12 games a year, ONCE (and that was this year, when he went 18-10), and is injured all the time…and who only picthes well during a contract year…AND quits on his team…HA HA HA HA HA HA

Can I tell how so freaking THRILLED I am the Sox did not commit to this guy???

So that is a 1/4 of a BILLION dollars the Skanks have spent on 2 pitchers–and neither one will be effective for the life of their contract…

Personally, I would love to see Derek Lowe come back to Boston. You know he wants to…but he is looking for 4 years at about $15-16 million a year ….UGH….Would he take a discount to return to the Sox?? With Satan as his agent? Probably not…

Caution: Whine/Rant in progress: I hate the off-season (no great revelation there, I know) Its COLD, its LONG, there is precious little to talk about (for the most part). The Red Sox do dumb things under guise that its a “really good thing” (like change the logo and the jersey) but it ends up costing the fans money…And Scott Boras seems to have ALL the free agents worth mentioning, so all we hear about is Scott Boras (UGH)

And the worst thing about THIS particular off-season? Is this freaking WBC. Am I the only one who thinks this is lamer than crap? Holy Buckets! Its like an all-star game against the whole world…the last WBC is the reason Mike Timlin was all screwed up and on the DL a bunch of times in 2006. Its cuts into Spring Training, and the preparations needed there for the 2009 campaign.

So forgive me if I am not all a twitter about the fact that Dustin Pedroia is playing for the US, and Daisuke (who was the MVP of the stinking thing last time) will be pitching for Japan. And I think Big Papi should pass this year (he played for the Dominican Republic in 2006, and is expected to play again–if he is well enough). We need his wrist to be 100% for 2009–not the WBC…

Coming up: GUESS what???? MORE waiting! And MORE stories on the WBC… Shocking, I know…
