    December 10, 2008:
    Two…Little…Red…Sox…

Posted by Christine E. at 12:32 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

More to the story with “logo-gate”: WBZ speculated yesterday that the new logo could be the 2 red sox, rather than the long standing and iconic “B” the club currently has.

Now, I love the 2 Sox–as a matter of fact, that will be my next tattoo, the one I said I would get in 2007 if the Sox won the World Series–and its just a matter of getting off my butt and go and getting it. But I think that using the 2 Sox as the main logo on the hats and such, would throw them into the “pink hat cutesy zone” Sort of like the Marlins with the fish on their hats, or the Angels with their little halo.

I know, I know, there are currently hats (and they are not even pink–at least not all of them) that you can buy with just the Sox on them–and yes, they are way cool–but I think they will look lame if the whole team was wearing them…

Yeah, and that made much more sense in my head…

So it looks like CC Sabathia was lured by all…that…money….and hey, if you are a pitcher who throws far too many innings in a season (I think that was a big reason he did so poorly against the Sox in the 2007 postseason–he was TIRED) and one day in the not too distant future your arm will probably fall off, and you are pretty overweight and out of shape, and will be more and more prone to injuries as you get older, if you can get the Skanks to overspend for you, hey, more power to you. So it looks like 7-years, $160 million, was his number. I think I will take year 3 in the “CC Sabathia will have a 6-11 record” pool….

And any opportunity to watch the Skanks overspend, for: wait for it…YET ANOTHER AGING SUPERSTAR. Fun times!

And the Sox want Mark Teixeira anyway, so the less money the Skanks have left, the better…

So Sports Illustrated had this quote yesterday about the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes: from a “decision maker on an unnamed team”: “I think he’ll sign with the Red Sox. They want him. They have a good relationship with [agent Scott] Boras, and in the end, they have the dollars to make it happen.”

Did you ever wonder who this “unnamed sources are? Not to be all Mulder and Scully, but it would not surprise me in the least if this came from the Sox camp–just like any other team who is mentioned in these types of quotes…

And if the Sox are going to pick up another better than average pitcher, can we go with Derek Lowe, rather than AJ Burnett? Huh? Theo? Please? Burnett is a punk who only pitches well in a contract year, and has had a HUGE history of injury–and we know Lowe can handle himself here…and has always been a durable player–and wants to return to Boston…

Coming up: More of the same, as the Winter Meetings begin their last 24 hours in Vegas…
