Holy Buckets! It’s only been a little more than 3 weeks since there was meaningful baseball? Feels like 24 weeks…and in case you were wondering, there is a little less than 21 weeks to go until Opening Day…UGH…

At least there is some more hardware news, as we wait for Dustin Pedroia to be named the AL MVP next week…

Jon Lester was named the 2008 recipient of the 2008 Hutch Award. Started in 1965 and named for baseball legend Fred Hutchinson, it’s given to a player who “exemplifies the honor, courage and dedication of (Fred Hutchinson, both on and off the field. From Jon: “This is a tremendous honor for me and my family to have been selected for the Hutch Award. I’m humbled to know that legends such as Mickey Mantle, Sandy Koufax and Lou Brock have won this award in the past.” Jon will get his award at Safeco Field in Seattle on January 21st, where the Hutch Award Lunch is held. Dodger Great Tom Seaver will be the keynote speaker at the event. If you happen to be in the neighborhood and want to go, you can get tickets here

Jon Lester’s record for the 2008 campaign (his best yet) was 16-6 with a 3.21 ERA. He also had a no-hitter on May 19th against the KC Royals, an AL Player of the Week in May, and pitcher of the month in July and September…and he is only 24…can you IMAGINE the future???

Alexei Ramirez of the White Sox finished 2nd…

A little more info has come out about the deal the Dodgers have offered Manny: $20 million for 2 years, with a 3rd year option for another $20 million. Of course, Satan is saying it’s not a long enough deal, as Manny has expressed a desire to play 6 more years….

So Seattle is looking for a Manager. And they are looking at Sox Bench Coach Brad Mills and 3rd Base Coach DeMarlo Hale as possible candidates for the position. Pitching Coach John Farrell was also on the short list, but he declined the interview…

Despite the fact that Tito has had numbness in his arms since May, it’s still unclear whether or not he will be having back surgery this off season. He did have his left knee scoped last week–it’s a wonder there is anything left in his knees to clean out….

Citing the current economic problems in the US, The Red Sox announced today that, for the 1st time in 14 years, they will not be raising any ticket prices at Fenway Park, or at Spring training in Fort Meyers. Like this is will cause them any hardship, as they have been arising some sort of prices every year, well, for the last 14…
