    October 24, 2008:
    Ho Hum…

Posted by Christine E. at 2:58 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

And here we are, Day 5 without Red Sox Baseball…with only 459,608 days left to go until the start of the 2009 Campaign…

The World Series of Boring just finished up game 2, with Tampa Bay winning that one 4-2 and they are tied 1-1..So their will not be a sweep this year, and my prediction of Tampa Bay in 5 can still happen…and game 3 will be on Saturday night in Philadelphia, as will Games 4 and 5…But we are supposed to be getting buckets of rain on Saturday (like a 100% chance) here in PA, so its quite possible they will shift everything ahead a day–cause I dont think they would be doing a doubleheader for the World Series…although that woudl be pretty cool–if it was anyone else but these teams…

I have checked the scores occasionally on line, but I have not watched a minute of this series–It holds absolutely no interest for me. While I want the Rays to beat the Phillies (for reasons FAR too numerous to list) I just dont care that much….

So Bud the Used Car Salesman wants to remove some of the off days in the post season, to shorten it. Why Bud? Potentially because the World Series can end around Halloween? Or perhaps it’s because the 2009 season will begin a week later (April 5), which means the World Series could end around November 5th–next year? Alot of this happened because of moving the 1st day of the World Series 4 days later, to a Wednesday, instead of a Sunday. I personally think that a day off before and after 1 game (which happened in both the ALDS and the ALCS is way too excessive–these are players who have been playing 162+ games–sometimes up to 20 games without a day off. Suddenly, it’s the postseason, and they need every other day off.

And no, I am not naive–I know that have a game on ever day, sometimes alternating between leagues, will bring the most revenue–But they will be playing in the SNOW if something is not done. Hopefully, this kind of thing will also put the rest the thought of making the ALDS a best of 7 series….they’ll be playing at Christmas!

So, all of the coaching staff, with the exception of 1st base coach Luis Alicea, will return for the 2009 season. Why not Alicea? His thing was infield defense and base running–and the Sox are more of a running team that they have bene in a while. Hell, Dustin Pedroia had 20 steals this year. And they cannot possibly blame him for Julio Lugo. He sucked before he came to the Sox, and will continue to suck long after he leaves–which isn’t soon enough, as far as I am concerned…

And the only coach who has been with Terry Francona cine the beginning? That would be Bench Coach Brad Mills…

Apparently, Satan and his reliable office staff are in the process of compiling the Jason Varitek dossier–you know the one where we only dreamed he hit .118 in the postseason, and that he should command Jorge Posada numbers ($52 million over 4 years) Love ‘Tek, Hate his Agent, wish he would go away….

Satan Deal, Part 2: Manny Ramirez–I think he is looking for a 75 year contract at about $100 million per…Seriously, they are looking at A-Fraud money, for 5 or 6 years. The Dodgers would agree to the annual, but not the duration. So I hope they and their fans won’t be too surprised when he bails and ends up somewhere–basically, anywhere they will pay him–and it does not really matter whether he likes that place of not–he can just pull a Boston…

Satan Deal, Part 3: Derek Lowe is considered a PRIME free agent this year–and is looking for $14-15 million, over 3 or 4 years. Could the Sox POSSIBLY bite–AGAIN???

As if we didn’t need any more compelling evidence: Jed Lowrie has been hurt since May with a sprain and a fracture in his left wrist (it’s a small nondisplaced one–whatever that means) and STILL fielded and hit better than Lugo! He doesn’t need a cast or anything–it’ll be fine with about 3-4 weeks of rest…

Since the Sox dont want to pull an A-Fraud and make any major announcements until AFTER the World Series, they are waiting on their presumed announcement that Theo Epstein’s contract was renewed and his will remain with the Sox. Terms of any deal are not yet available…But I am sure it’ll be substantial…

    Ho hum…
