    October 3, 2008:
    All ALDS, All the time!

Posted by Christine E. at 2:24 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Yesterday’s games pretty much went the way I expected it: Tampa Bay won on the back of 2 homers from Eva(n) Longoria–making baseball history because the homers were in his 1st 2 postseason at bats–ever…So Tampa Leads that series 1-0, and they play Chicago again tonight at 6:07pm…

On the National League side, Both series are standing at 2-0, with the Phillies beating the Brewers again, this time 5-2, and the Dodgers pummeling the Cubs (I am willing to bet their 4 errors in the game did not help matters any….)10-3…

Does anyone else think that a Phillies/Dodgers NLCS will be about as fascinating as watching paint dry? And it will put me in a quandary–I cannot STAND the Phillies (never could) and I don’t want the Dodgers to get to the World Series because of Manny (yeah, I’m bitter…) So which team do I not want to get to the World Series MORE? Probably the Dodgers….

Ya know what’s funny? Before the postseason started, everyone walk talking about the Cubs and how THEY were the team to beat, and how they had it all locked up. Next day, after their 1st loss, all of the press was about how they were done, history, kaput…

Thankfully, Josh Beckett had a very good side session yesterday, throwing 65 picthes with “no restrictions or limitations” From pitching Coach John Farrell: “Provided that there’s no concerns coming out of his exams after the bullpen or the follow-up tomorrow, he should be on line for Sunday. There hasn’t been an official announcement, but I will tell you that from the look in his bullpen today, he looks ready to go for Sunday.” As if anyone needs reminding, Josh went 4-0 with a 1.20 ERA in last year’s postseason…Game Time for Sunday’s contest at Fenway is 7:17pm….

And while it looks like JD Drew is finally ready to play consistently, we cannot say the same for Mike Lowell, who may even be rested in tonight’s game to prepare him to play on Sunday. Unfortunately, no amount of rest is going to help with a torn hip labrum–only surgery is, which he will have as soon as the Red Sox season ends…

After being left off the ALDS roster, Mike Timlin announced yesterday that he is seriously considering going the retirement route, saying he will discuss his path forward with his family when the season ends. From Mike: “There’s definitely a desire for me to pitch, because I still love this game. But there’s also a point where I have to weigh physical ailments against the desire and see where that leads.” Timlin has made 1,058 appearances over his 18 year career, appearing in 47 games this season (his 6th with the Sox) ending up with a 5.66 ERA and 4-4 record in 2008…

Tonight: The NL takes a break, moving to the other team’s home, and the AL takes front and center, with Tampa Bay, taking their 1-0 lead into game 2 against the White Sox at 6:07pm, and the Sox taking their 1-0 lead into Game 2 for them at 9:37pm. Daisuke takes the mound against Ervin Santana…

So how come TBS decided that the 1st Sox/Angels night game would be 10:07 during the week, and 9:37 on the weekend, when everyone CAN stay up without going to work the next day as a zombie? Go Figure

    Go Sox!
