    October 1, 2008:
    Let the Postseason Begin!

Posted by Christine E. at 11:58 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Although Red Sox Nation has to wait another 8+ hours for the postseason to begin, 10:07pm to be precise against the Angels–in Anaheim, natch, there will be baseball in less time than that, when the Brewers and Phillies face off in Philadelphia at 3:07pm today. Then, at 6:37pm, the Dodger and Cubs take the field in Chicago in Game 1 of their NLDS series…

And, in a nail biter 1-0 victory last night, The Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins for the AL Central Title. So now that the final 8 have been decided, its time for Part 1 of my annual Postseason Predictions, which are usually completely off the mark–but here goes:

Brewers vs Phillies: Brewers in 4…

Dodgers at Cubs: I really think it’s the Cubs year, and I really want them to send Manny’s team packing: Cubs in 5

Red Sox vs Angels: 8-1 this season–I know the postseason is a whole new ball of wax, and that they Sox have beat the Angels in the last 2…But…Angels in 4…

White Sox vs the Rays: I really think Tampa Bay is going to do well–but the White Sox want it pretty bad: Tampa Bay in 5….

Once we see how the Division series go, we’ll go from there to the ALCD/NLCS…

And, for the record, I am not basing my prediction for the Sox on the fact that the Sox no longer have Manny Ramirez–I am basing this on the fact that the Sox are injured, and that the Angels have stomped all over them–all…year…long…

AND, for those of you who are whining that Manny was the MVP of the 2004 World Series–stop right there. KEITH FOULKE was the true MVP–but he did not get it for whatever reason–Manny is a star, is more newsworthy–WHATEVER…

What a difference a year makes! I was looking over one of my old blog posts from this time last year and I actually said this: Jon Lester, after battling cancer, came back and pitched pretty well, ending up with a 4-2 record and a 4.57 ERA. Still has consistency problems, but he is 24 years old, and he had consistency problems before his illness…I think if he can work through those things, he will be great–maybe not Clay Buchholtz great, but he still has electric stuff when he is on…

    Wow…was I delusional…

If JD Drew has his way he will be in the lineup for tonight’s game: “In my mind, I’m 100 percent sure [I’ll be playing]. Everything else is up to Tito.” He did all the things he would normally do during the workout in California yesterday…

Mike Lowell also participated in the workout yesterday and it went without incident, but Mike admits he was concerned prior to the workout: “The writing will be on the wall. Either I’ll keel over because it hurts, or I won’t. There won’t be any mystery to it.” Apparently, he did not keel, and that is always a good sign….

And Josh Beckett also did well, throwing from 60 and 90 feet, and will continue working by doing some long-toss today. If all goes well, the next step is a side session tomorrow, and then starting on Sunday night in the Fens…

So we wait until Tito releases the Roster, and then all will be revealed….

Neat stat about Tito: He is the winningest postseason manager, ever, with a 22-9 record, or a .710 winning percentage (with at least 20 postseason games managed. Let’s hope that trend continues…

Tonight: Finally! Jon Lester and John Lackey face off tonight for Game 1 of one of the AL Division Series. 1st pitch: The middle of the night, or 10:07pm…

    Go Sox!
