Red Sox 1, Tampa Bay 2:
    Well, THAT was disappointing…

Posted by Christine E. at 12:38 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Apparently, the role of Tim “I pitch REALLY well, but get no run support” Wakefield is now being played by Josh Beckett–and he pitched about as well as anyone could expect, going 8 innings, and only giving up the 1 run, a homer to, who else, Carlos Pena.

Speaking of Carlos Pena, a guy I work with, actually grew up with Carlos Pena in Mass, and has said he is a really nice guy…

Then, Justin Masterson, who has been very good for the Sox this year, came in at the bottom of the 9th, got 1 out, proceeded to load the bases, so that Dioner Navarro could win the game on an RBI single…..

Josh’s line: 8IP, throwing 95 picthes, 63 for strikes, while giving up 1 run on 3 hits while walking 1, hitting Cliff Floyd and striking out 7…Looks like he’s baaaaack……and 9 times out of 10, this is good enough to win….

    Just not last night…..CRAP….

Looks like there will be a TON less drama in the Theo Epstein as GM of hte Red Sox signing than there was back in 2005. According to John Henry: “We are all on the same page with regard to our vision for the organization. The negotiations were pleasant, and were all about rewarding Theo for the great, great job he has done in bringing two world championships to the Red Sox. We look forward to the difficult task of trying to win a third…We are not done, but we expect to have an announcement in the near future. I have asked all involved not to comment until this is finalized.”

Congratulations to Jason Bay and his wife, Kristen, who gave birth to the couple’s 2nd child, Evelyn Jane on Tuesday night…Mom and baby are doing fine…Mark Kotsay hit 6th in the lineup for last night’s game in place of Bay…

Neato Stat: The record for errorless games to begin a career is 176, held by outfielder Shane Victorino; Jacoby Ellsbury is currently at 163…

Small World, part 904—Joe Maddon, manager of the Tampa Bay Rays, went to Hazleton High School—which is about 30 minutes from my house…

Coming up: Tim Wakefield takes the mound today in the final game against Tampa Bay in 2008–in the regular season anyway. If he is as brilliant as he was in his last start (8 innings of scoreless, 3-hit baseball) the Sox should be in good shape–IF they give him some offense… If the Sox win today, they are once again tied for the AL East, if not, they are 2 games behind…Matt Garza gets the nod for the Rays. 1st pitch 7:10pm

Oh, and By the Way? The Magic # to make the postseason is 5…Whoo Hoo!!
