    Red Sox 14, Oreos 2:
    Winning Another Series….

Posted by Christine E. at 11:38 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Last night’s win caps the 5th series in a row that the Sox have won–but they have swept none of them–Hopefully they will be able to close the deal in today’s contest and finally take care of Baltimore–and if they can’t, that is not good, since Baltimore is dead last in the division, 12 games under 500–and the Sox should be able to destroy teams like that if they have any hope of winning another World Series….

Jon Lester did OK in last night’s outing, only giving up 1 run on 6 hits while walking 4 and striking out 5. He threw 99 pitches, 58 for strikes over 5 innings. He seemed to struggle a bit n this one, but then again, there were 20+ minute waits for him while the offense put up a ton of runs, plus the fact that all he needed to do was get through the 5th inning, and he was going to win this game…

This was a night where all of the starting 9 got hits, and Big Papi and Dustin “I am so on fire, I need asbestos” Pedroia combined for 9 RBI’s in this game…

And how on fire is he? Check THIS out: in the last 7 games, Pedroia is hitting .600 (yes, SIX HUNDRED) with 11 RBI’s, 3 doubles and 2 home runs…He also has a .330 BA so far this season, which leads the AL…Yep, that’s on-fire….

With this win, and the fact that the Skanks are beating up on the Rays for the next couple of days, the Sox are now 4 games behind the Rays in the division, increasing their probability of making the postseason to 95.5 %. The Skanks, despite their win, are 11GB the Rays and have a 1.8% chance, and Tampa Bay 99.1%.

The Sox are also 4 games ahead of Minnesota and the White Sox in the Wild Card Race…

Looks like Josh Beckett fared very well with a great 58 pitch bullpen session yesterday, which means he is all but guaranteed to start on Friday night in Texas against the Rangers. From Josh: “It’s a lot easier to go at this session with full intensity knowing that everything is OK…We got the big hurdle behind us, going to see the doctor. Now we’ve just got to go back into the swing of things, and I think today’s bullpen was a nice stepping stone.” Josh has been on the DL since August 18th with right elbow strain.

Looks like the Sox are lining up Bartolo Colon’s final rehab start so that he could be in line to start one of the games of the day/night doubleheader on September 13. He has been on the DL with a stiff back since the middle of June…

Looks like Julio Lugo will still be out for a while. He has been doing some light running, but this strained left quad is still too sore to progress from there. He was transferred to the 60-day disabled list over the weekend…No worries, Julio, the Sox are doing GREAT without you….don’t feel like you have to hurry back, PLEASE…

    Neato factoids:

Since the Sox have traded Manny to LA, they have went 20-9

Since Manny has been playing with LA, they have went 14-16

Still think this trade was a bad idea???

Kevin Youkilis, for his community efforts, including his own charity, Kevin Youkilis Hits for Kids, has been nominated as the Red Sox representative for the Roberto Clemente award, which was established in 2002 “to honor the memory of a superstar who donated his life to aid others” Pirates Hall of Famer Robert Clemente was killed in a plane crash on New Years Eve in 1972 as he was taking supplies to Nicaraguan earthquake victims. Last year’s recipient was Astros Craig Biggio. Other team’s finalist nominees include: Grad Sizemore (Cleveland) Lance Berkman (Astros) Melvin Mora (Baltimore) Johnny Damon (Yankees) and Vernon Wells (Toronto). You can vote here until October 5th…the winner will be announced at Game 3 of the World Series…

Today: Daisuke takes the mound to hopefully close the deal on the Baltimore and get the sweep. This is the final game between the 2 teams for the 2008 campaign. 1st pitch is 1:35pm. Lance Cormier, who has only pitched out of the bullpen this season, but is replacing Jeremy Guthrie (dead arm), gets the nod for the cookies…
