    Red Sox 2, Skankees 3:
    Par for the Course….

Posted by Christine E. at 12:07 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

I know, I said I would be happy if the Sox took 2 out of 3 from the Skanks this week, and the possibility of the Skanks coming back and actually getting to the post season are VERY slim (less than 3% at this point)…BUT…

I lied–I wanted the Sox to give the death blow to this team who has been causing us/the Sox grief for the last 90 years or so. I wanted to see Jeter, A-Rod, Giam-BO and the whole gang COMPLETELY CRUSHED. I wanted to see Joe Girardi weeping as Hank Steinbrenner had him removed from the Stadium. I wanted to see Hank Steinbrenner weeping as King George came in and smacked him upside the head…I wanted gnashing of teeth, and snarls and running amok in the streets…I wanted it too look like any one of those futuristic sci-fi movies where the earth is a smoking mass of goo…

Instead–we lose yet ANOTHER 1 run game at the hands of freaking Jason “I am looking to be a porn star, see my mustache?” Giambi…

This time it was a 2 run shot in the 7th inning off Okajima who allowed the inherited runner to score (naturally) that Jon Lester left when left the game after 6 2/3 of a shutout, throwing 119 pitches (which is why he was lifted for Okajima), 78 for strikes, and only giving up the 1 run on 5 hits while walking none and striking out 8. It was the Lester we have known and loved for most of the season–the dominating one…

And THEN it was the walk off SINGLE in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, off Jonathan Papelbon no less….

I am SO glad this is Giam-BO’s final year of his contract with the Skanks–I hope he goes away somewhere and I never have to see his sweaty, mustache wearing, face again….It’s just a shame that Swingtown is probably going to be canceled–he would have fit right in…

And to add insult to injury, Josh Beckett has been scratched AGAIN, and will not be starting against the White Sox this evening. He is actually going to see Dr. James Andrews, the Tommy John Guru in Alabama…And I am having nightmares of Tommy John Surgery in his future…and if that happens, the Sox are &*(@&#*@&#()*@&…Theo weighs in: “We’re always concerned for all our pitchers when they’re less than 100 percent, but we’re pretty optimistic. This thing is getting better. It just makes sense. Josh has a great relationship with Dr. Andrews; he’s an accomplished doctor. We hope he comes back and can take the ball pretty soon.”

One good thing about this 9 game road trip–the Sox actually won all of their series, and ended with a 6-3 record. So winning on the road has been resolved (hopefully)

And for those of you who whined and cried that the Sox gave up too much when they gave Craig Hansen to the Pirates for Jason Bay? Craig Hansen was DEMOTED to the Pirates AAA Club this week, cause he is the proud owner of a 0-2 record with a 8.10 ERA for the big club….Still think moving him was a mistake? Mark Kotsay got the start in Right Field yesterday, giving Coco Crisp the day off, and in his 1st bat with the Sox? Hit a double…

Apparently the stiff neck that Sean Casey has been suffering from since August 1st is still not right… Oh, it was getting better, good enough for Sean to think he could take some practice swings–which cause a setback…When the team returns to the Fens today, he will be visiting the doctors and getting an MRI. Also making a visit will be JD Drew who may get an epidural to ease the spasming in his back…

But Mike Lowell IS doing better, taking batting practice off a tee yesterday, and complaining that he wants to play, which is always a good sign….

Tonight: The Sox have 29 games left to play–and 20 of them are at home, where they own a fantastic record (43-18) Kicking off the final 3-game series against the White Sox, Daisuke will take the mound, in place of Josh Beckett, throwing 1st pitch at 7:05pm. Javier Vasquez opposes him for the Pale Hose…
