    Red Sox 9, Skankees 2:
    One hell of a weekend…

Posted by Christine E. at 11:55 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

Well, I was right when I said each team would win one–but as far as the Sox winning two of the 3–not so much. Although I do believe that the Sox had NO business losing the game on Friday night–there always seems to be at least ONE of those fricken games–a 1 run loss, or 1-0 loss because of something stupid involving Jason “Swingtown” Giambi–and Friday night was no different.

And, does anyone really believe that Joba “Don’t call me Justin” Chamberlain has PINPOINT PERFECT control for 101 pitches, but for the ONE he almost hit Kevin Youkilis in the HEAD with he just could not control? Nope, me either….

And can we all agree that the Craig Hansen Experiment was an abysmal failure and move on? When he was brought into Saturday’s game, I looked at my husband and said “Tito has just conceded this game–watch the bases will be loaded for when Swingtown comes to bat” and Lo and Behold….He is another one who needs to go…

And WHAT to say about the Manny Ramirez crap–and where to begin…Well, it took whispered threats of suspensions and fines (although I am SURE the players union would not have allowed that anyway) to get Manny back in the lineup on Saturday. This was after HE decided he wasn’t up to playing in Friday night’s game, and the Sox sent him for an MRI on BOTH knees (which came up clean) and then yesterday he threw THIS out there: “…if the Red Sox, if they think they could find a trade, you know, that’s going to make their team better and both sides are going to be happy, I’m going to agree,” “But if they cannot find that trade, it’s something simple. It’s no big deal. At the end of the season, all they’ve got to do is call my agent and tell him, ‘Hey, we’re not going to pick up Manny’s option for ’09. He’s going to become a free agent and that’s it. I’ll go my way, and you guys go your way.’ It’s something simple.”

Sounds to me like Manny wants out–AGAIN…and this time, I really hope they can make it happen. And all the Manny apologists out there really need to get over this, and stop blaming the media and go on about how they are making him look like the bad guy, and driving him out of town. MANNY decided he was “hurting” and took himself out; HE is the one that decided to whine about the fact the Sox have not picked up his option yet for next year (the Sox have until November 9th to do that); HE is the one who shoved Jack McCormick, HE is the one who slapped Kevin Youkilis–How is this anyone else’s fault. Now, HE is the one that needs to go…this “I’m a victim, woe is me” crap is just that…CRAP…

And SPARE us the Julio Lugo defending him stuff: “He says he’s hurting, he’s hurting. Nobody knows. Sometimes you’ve got tendonitis in your knee and it doesn’t show anything. But if you’re hurting, you’re hurting. I can’t say anything. I know Manny, he plays every day. He’s been hurt for a while…That’s not true that you can’t trade Manny. Somebody’s going to take him. I mean he’s been the best hitter in baseball. Manny wants to be here. I think he wants to finish here. He just wants to be settled, like everybody else.”

Yeah, OK Julio–Because with the $160.00 million Manny has raked in over the last 8 years is not enough to make him feel “settled”, and obviously, you are forgetting that the Sox put Manny on waivers in 2003 AND NO ONE WOULD TAKE HIM….Yeah, everyone wants him. The only team that probably wants him is the Mets, and that is because they are the elephant graveyard for where all old Red Sox go to die….and here is to hoping that someone will take your talentless ass and your crappy bloated contract off the Sox hands…

    But I’m not bitter…

Let’s talk about something happy–like the fact that Jon Lester has done a complete 180 and is becoming the pitcher with electric stuff that we have seen flashes of over the last couple of years.

His line: 7IP, throwing 113 pitches (75 for strikes) while only giving up 2 runs on 9 hits while walking only 1 and striking out 8…

And the BEST thing about Jon Lester? Is Jason Varitek feels he is only about 60% (yes SIXTY) of where he can be…Holy Buckets!

And it looks like Jacoby Ellsbury may be back on the path, with a 3-4 day at the plate, with a double, 2 singles, and scoring a run, while getting the start in Centerfield….

Bartolo Colon is still advancing on his rehab; having thrown 35 pitches over the weekend, and will throw a side session today. If all goes well, he’ll probably see a rehab start or two within the next week or so…

4:00pm this Thursday is the time and the day: The July 31st trade deadline. What will happen? Will the Sox finally trade Manny? Will they get someone to stabilize the bullpen? Will they get another bat? Who know….but it should be interesting…

Coming up: The Sox take on the Anaheim Angels of Los Angeles, Detroit and Pittston, kicking off the 2nd 3 game series on this home stand. Daisuke, coming off probably his best start of the season, throws 1st pitch at 7:05pm. He is opposed by Angel’s starter, Jered Weaver.

WBZ’s Dan Roche speaks to Manny’s behavior, how it’s not the media’s fault this is getting out of control… and wants to know if the public thinks we will be in a Red Sox uniform after Thursday’s trade deadline. Check out his blog and vote in hiw poll. http://cbslocalblogs.prospero.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?nav=main&webtag=WBZ_RedSoxBlog&entry=53

And, Christine… I agree, Manny being manny is crap! I’d love to see him get sent packing off to learn a lesson about how be part of a team. SKM

      Hi Stephanie:

Welcome to Boston Red Thoughts! Unfortuately, I think Manny will be with the Sox at least until the end of the season–and I think that as long as people continue to make excuses for him, he will never learn how to be a part of a team…

      Thanks for your comments!

      Go Sox!
